I am writing this note to thank myself for changing my life.

Dear Altaf, I thank you for not giving up despite many hurdles in the way.

In university, after long day of classes in scorching heat, when many would just go to hostel or their homes to sleep, you chose to get fresh and walk back to library to read newspaper. I thank you for that.

In evening, when Chai points, sports ground and rooftops were crowded with friends having laughters and fun, you rather stayed in your room with a book to read.

During weekends, when majority of hostelites would go to their hometowns or villages to be with their families and get their used clothes washed, you rather stayed at hostel to have 2 days peaceful study time. I thank you for doing your laundry yourself and studying in the remaining time with consistency.

I thank you for completing about 20 non-academic books during your last 2 years of bachelors along with maintaining 3.94CGPA and leading your final year thesis.

After graduation, I salute you for vowing to never ask for a penny from your parents anymore. You rather joined a school as a teacher with salary of 15k per month. Along with the tough job as private teacher, you continued your journey of self growth.

When many were going to Lahore, including your peers, for formally starting their CSS preparation, you were gathering money from your job to mere buy the books and other stationary.

It was May (2022), when only about 8 months were remaining in the CSS written exam, you left your job. I still remember you spending each of your hard earned penny on books, registers, and tons of papers and pens.

You didn't have the luxury of separate room and family support, but that didn't stop you. Instead of worrying or complaining about what you didn't have, you rather focused on utilizing what you had. The table in the picture is a 2-decade-old computer desk which I turned into my study table.

I thank you for not complaining about your circumstances to anyone. I thank you for breaking the myth that you need to go to Lahore for CSS. I thank you for maintaining a discipline that I have seen nowhere. I thank you for going against all odds. I thank you for being determined on your path. I thank you for supporting yourself when you were down. I thank you for being your own teacher. Your struggle, sacrifices and unflinching desire to groom yourself enabled you to crack this exam in your first attempt. You are just 23 years old but you possess the experience of millenium. I thank you for changing my life. I thank you for making me Assistant Commissioner in Inland Revenue Services.

Since the announcement of written result of CSS-2023, I have organized 3 CSS seminars in different cities to spread awareness about CSS and how aspirants from humble background like me can also crack this exam. I've also taught more than 200 CSS aspirants since then, which I will continue doing.
