Learning Resource Center, Center for Academic Integrity and Department of Information Management at the University of Lahore celebrated World Book and Copyright Day on May 7, 2026. The event was organized with great enthusiasm to reaffirm the university’s commitment to promoting a reading culture and safeguarding intellectual property rights. It brought together students, faculty members, and literary enthusiasts for discussions, debates, and celebrations centered on books, knowledge, and creativity.

The celebration began in Auditorium 1 and was hosted by Miss Marwa and Rimsha Qayyum, who served as moderators of the event. Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed reflected on the transformative role of books and knowledge in shaping individuals and societies. He emphasized the collective responsibility to preserve and nurture reading culture, particularly in today’s digitally driven world. His thoughts on information, knowledge, and intellectual growth strongly resonated with the audience.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, in his remarks, highlighted the importance of book reading, copyright protection, and publication ethics. He also discussed the contemporary challenges and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence, effectively connecting traditional academic values with the realities of emerging technologies.

The Rector, along with various deans, presented certificates and gifts to the selected UOL Book Ambassadors 2026 and the winners of the Booklover Award 2026, recognizing their contributions toward promoting reading culture and literary engagement within the university community.

All the Booklover Award Winners and UOL Book Ambassadors were students from diverse departments of the University of Lahore. These students were selected and celebrated for their dedication to reading and their efforts in promoting reading culture.
After the award ceremony, the UOL Debating Society took centre stage with a thoughtful discussion on the enduring question of printed versus e-books. Moderated by Abu Talha Chisti, students presented a well-articulated argument from both sides. They engaged the audience in a moment of critical thinking about the current and future preferred reading habits and their hurdles. These students were awarded appreciation certificates.

The event was concluded with a symbolic book walk that began outside Auditorium 1 and completed its way through campus, ending at the mosque’s entrance. This final gesture was an indication of hope for the future’s intellectual and spiritual dimensions of the celebration.
