We aren't that good at making cool reels so here's a bit of us at Imagining Futures Conference 2025 — Social Equity in South Asia at Habib University, Karachi.

Aala Taleem presented its project 'Decolonising Access: Epistemic Framework for Postgraduate Education in Pakistan' in the Intervention Showcase category.

P.S.
Also, Kashif was the only publicly-recognised anesthesiologist at the conference.

What defines a "right" action? Deontology argues it's not about the outcome but about adhering to universal moral rules. Think "Don't kill," "Don't steal," and "Keep your promises."

But is this rigid moral framework always practical? Consider whistleblowers who break confidentiality to expose corruption—does their act align with deontological ethics, or does the greater good justify bending the rules? 🤔

Where do you stand on this timeless debate of principles vs. consequences? Let's discuss below!

Think of 𝑇𝑒ℎ𝑟𝑒𝑒𝑘-𝑒-𝐿𝑎𝑏𝑏𝑎𝑖𝑘 𝑃𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛 (𝑇𝐿𝑃), which has repeatedly negotiated concessions from the state through mass mobilization and high-stakes protests. Contrast this with civil society movements like 𝐴𝑢𝑟𝑎𝑡 𝑀𝑎𝑟𝑐ℎ or 𝐶𝑙𝑖𝑚𝑎𝑡𝑒 𝐴𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑃𝑎𝑘𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑎𝑛, which push for fundamental rights yet face relentless opposition and limited traction.

Why do religious pressure groups succeed where civil society often falters? Is it the ability of religious groups to emotionally mobilize large numbers? Or is it their alignment with socio-political narratives that resonate with the priorities of the state and society at large?

What’s your take? Can civil society ever gain the same leverage, or is the system inherently stacked against them?

In rural Pakistan, millions of girls remain locked out of classrooms—not because they lack ambition, but because the system denies them access. Societal norms, crumbling infrastructure, and inaccessible schools stand between them and their dreams.

Research exposes a grim truth: policy alone isn’t enough without action. What does this mean for the future of these girls—and the communities that depend on their potential?

It’s time to rethink education beyond promises and statistics. How can we bridge the gap and empower the forgotten? Let’s start the conversation.

Imagine you’re surveying the eating habits of students at a university. Instead of interviewing every student (the population), you select a group of 100 individuals (the sample) to represent the whole. This process is called sampling.

Sampling techniques can be 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰, like random sampling, or 𝗻𝗼𝗻-𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰, such as convenience sampling. Choosing the right method is critical to ensuring reliable research outcomes.

Education, Paulo Freire believed, holds the power to liberate—or to oppress. His revolutionary work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed (1968), challenges traditional hierarchies, urging educators to foster critical thinking and empower learners to question oppressive systems. Freire’s ideas echo through debates on education today: Are we nurturing freedom or reinforcing inequities?

How can education truly transform lives without dismantling systemic barriers? Share your thoughts!
