Remembering Prof. Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh
On his 5th death anniversary, I pay heartfelt tribute to a teacher who did far more than just teach—he transformed lives. I was fortunate to be his student back in 1996, during my MBA at UCP (then PCBA), where he taught Advertising with unmatched clarity, passion, and discipline.
It was under his guidance that I joined the Media & Seminars Affairs Committee, learning how to write minutes, manage newsletters, and organize events. His Advertising class introduced me to media planning, PR, and communication strategy. Our final project on “The Impact of Anti-Smoking Campaigns”—which had me out with a handycam interviewing smokers—was my first realization of how powerful messaging can be.
But that’s not where it ended. He helped me land my first internship at McCann Erickson, which I converted into a full-time job within four months. That set the stage for my move to Lowe Lintas, and later Tetra Pak, where I launched a hardbound newsletter—again, building on what I had learned from him in that committee room.
And then—something I’ll never forget—he invited me back to speak to his Advertising students. Not only that, he entrusted me to teach a few MBA Advertising classes in his place while he traveled internationally. That experience revealed the public speaker and mentor within me—a gift I didn’t even know I had.
When I reflect today, I realize how deeply his influence shaped my journey—from a student figuring things out to now serving as Sr. Director & Country Head – Mobile Business, Samsung EC Pakistan.
Dr. Mughees wasn’t just a teacher. He was a classic, old-school, selfless mentor, the kind you rarely find anymore. Today I understand where I picked up those values—from someone who lived them every single day.
Even long after he’s gone, my thoughts are still filled with respect for him. He didn’t just inspire me—he helped me become someone who now inspires others. He truly deserves much more recognition than we ever gave him.
May Allah SWT bless his soul and grant him the highest place in Jannah. Ameen.
Please remember Prof. Dr. Mughees-ud-Din Sheikh in your prayers.
