The University of Lahore’s University Institute of Radiological Sciences & Medical Imaging Technology (UIRSMIT) successfully organized an insightful and future-focused session on the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) on 7th May 2026.

The session featured guest speaker Hamza Mahmood Khan, who shared valuable insights into the evolution of MRI technology, smart imaging solutions, and the future of AI-driven diagnostics.

Students of the UIMLT Department had an informative and educational visit to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency Labs. During the visit, students attended a detailed introductory lecture followed by brief sessions in different laboratories and workstations.

The visit provided valuable exposure to modern forensic techniques, laboratory procedures, and practical applications in diagnostic and investigative sciences. It was a great learning opportunity for students to observe professional laboratory practices and interact with experts in the field.

Students of the University Institute of Radiological Sciences and Medical Imaging Technology (UIRSMIT), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, actively participated in the M.A. Raoof Innovation Start-up Expo 2026 organized by the Faculty of Sciences at The University of Lahore. The event brought together students from 15 external universities, along with participants from more than five departments beyond the Faculty of Sciences, to showcase their innovative prototype ideas and entrepreneurial potential.

A Historic Milestone by Department of Health Professional Technologies.

Students of Respiratory Therapy and Anesthesia Technology from the Department of Health Professional Technologies (DHPT) are now undergoing high-level clinical training at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital.

This opportunity follows a formal collaboration, making it the first time that students of Allied Health Sciences programs from any private sector institute are being trained at a JCI-accredited
institution of such international repute. Known for its excellence in patient care, advanced clinical protocols, and global standards, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital provides an unmatched learning environment.

Through this experience, DHPT students are gaining hands-on exposure, professional confidence, and real-world clinical expertise at one of the country’s leading healthcare

The event featured distinguished guest speakers who highlighted the significance of Medical Laboratory Professionals in the healthcare system, emphasizing their critical role in disease diagnosis, patient management, and advancements in medical sciences. The session provided valuable learning opportunities for students and encouraged interactive engagement between participants and experts.

The event concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony to commemorate World Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, recognizing the dedication and contributions of laboratory professionals in modern healthcare.

UIRSMIT – Faculty Achievement
The University Institute of Radiological Sciences and Medical Imaging Technology (UIRSMIT)
recognizes the international academic achievement of Dr. Mahrukh Latif, whose research has
been acknowledged at the European Congress of Radiology (ECR) 2026, organized by the
European Society of Radiology (ESR), widely regarded as one of the largest and most
prestigious congresses in the field of radiology worldwide.

Her research titled “Validation of CRITOE for Appearance of Elbow Secondary Ossification
Centers in Local Population” was accepted as an EPOS™ (Electronic Presentation Online
System) poster at ECR 2026. The study, submitted under registration number 28822, represents a
contribution from the University of Lahore, Pakistan.

Among 11,376 abstracts submitted globally, her work was ranked among the top-rated posters,
qualifying for the EPOS™ PULSE platform, which is reserved exclusively for the top 500
selected abstracts. This places the research within a highly competitive international cohort of
submissions, reflecting its academic quality and relevance.

The poster was officially exhibited through the EPOS™ system and made accessible both online
and within the congress environment in Vienna from March 4–8, 2026 where Dr. Mahrukh Latif
presented online and also attended ECR 2026.

This achievement represents a significant milestone for UIRSMIT, highlighting the institute’s
growing presence in international research forums and its contribution to advancing knowledge
in radiological sciences.

Students of the 10th Semester BMIS program from the University Institute of Radiological Sciences Medical Imaging Technology (UIRSMIT), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, The University of Lahore, had the valuable opportunity to visit the Nuclear Medicine Department of
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital &; Research Centre under the supervision of Dr. Noraiz Ali, Dr. Muhammad Ishaq and Ms. Maham Nasir.

During the visit, students were given a comprehensive orientation of the Nuclear Medicine Department, where they observed state-of-the-art technologies and workflows. A key highlight
of the visit was the detailed demonstration of the Gamma Camera, where students learned about its working principles, radiopharmaceutical usage, and its role in functional imaging for disease diagnosis.

The students also visited the PET-CT Scanner unit, where they gained insights into hybrid imaging techniques combining positron emission tomography with computed tomography. The
session covered clinical applications of PET-CT in oncology, including tumor detection, staging, and treatment monitoring.

The visit provided an excellent opportunity for students to interact with experienced professionals, ask questions, and observe real-time clinical practices. UIRSMIT extends its sincere gratitude to the administration and staff of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and ; Research Centre for their cooperation and for facilitating an informative and engaging learning experience.

The Career Counselling Seminar for students of the University Institute of Radiological Sciences & Medical Imaging Technology (UIRSMIT), Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, The University of Lahore, was successfully conducted on 23rd April 2026 at Auditorium 1.

The seminar provided valuable insights into emerging trends, specialization opportunities, and the growing scope of medical imaging both nationally and internationally. Students actively participated in the session and gained practical knowledge about career planning, higher education options, and professional skill development.

Dr. Arsalan Omer, Consultant Radiologist at SIMS, and Dr. Shahzad Karim Bhatti, Associate Professor specializing in pain management, highlighted the vast scope of radiology and emphasized the importance of choosing the right specialization based on individual interests and market demand.

Dr. Khalid Idrees, Consultant Radiologist, discussed higher education opportunities and guided students on pursuing advanced certifications and international career pathways in medical imaging.

Miss Arifa Mobeen, COD, Department of Medical Imaging & Ultrasonography at UMT, and Miss Ifrah Butt, Application Specialist at Hoora Pharma Pvt. Ltd., shed light on the role of emerging technologies in transforming the future of radiology and healthcare practices.

Mr. Mudassar Nazir, HOD, Department of CT Scan at DHQ Toba Tek Singh, motivated students by sharing practical career-building strategies, focusing on skill enhancement, internships, and professional networking.

The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, followed by a vote of thanks from Dr. Zareen Fatima, HOD, UIRSMIT.
