In a significant move to champion social cohesion, the Department of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, The University of Lahore hosted a high-profile seminar titled "Fostering Interfaith Harmony for a Resilient Society" on May 5, 2026. As a cornerstone of the Government of Punjab’s "Countering Violent Extremism" (CVE) campaign, the event was presided over by Rector Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, who utilized the historic Covenant of Medina and the Seerah of the Holy Prophet (SAW) to illustrate that a resilient society is built on the pillars of justice, equality, and human rights. The opening proceedings, featuring a soulful Quranic recitation by Qari Abdul Qudoos and Naat by Irtisam Omar, set a contemplative tone. At the same time, Stage Secretary Dr. Aqeel Ahmed emphasized that intellectual dialogue is no longer optional but a crucial necessity to bridge the social distances created by modern ideological complexities.
The seminar’s intellectual depth was further enriched by a diverse panel including Dr. Alon Jan, Prof. Dr. Kalyan Singh, and Dr. Rana Shafiq Pasruri, who collectively advocated for a fundamental "mindset shift" to recognize humanity as our primary commonality. From Dr. Jan’s five principles of tolerance to Dr. Kalyan Singh’s tribute to the inclusive academic spirit of Pakistan, the speakers reached a powerful consensus: a welfare state thrives only when it protects the rights of all religious units. This vision was reinforced by Dr. Naseer Akhtar in his vote of thanks, where he reminded the youth that while personal beliefs may differ, every citizen stands equal under their Pakistani identity. Concluding with a prayer for national progress by Prof. Dr. Shams-ul-Arifeen and broadcast globally by Al-Ehsan TV, the seminar successfully reinforced the university's commitment to nurturing students as ambassadors of peace and service to humanity.
