LUMS Urdu Language Program has announced open registration for their Summer 2022 Urdu Language Program. This is a great opportunity for anyone to enhance their language skills and learn about Pakistani society and culture first-hand. Applications for our Summer 2022 intensive Urdu Language Program are now live. This summer, students will have the opportunity to be immersed in a world of Urdu both inside and outside of the classroom in Lahore. Not only they will be able to explore the city of Urdu literary giants such as Sir Allama Iqbal and Saadat Hasan Manto, but also have the chance to be surrounded by Urdu in public spaces and media, and most importantly to experience daily interactions in the language.

Jaam-e Urdu: Explorations in Reading and Writing is a 10-week course geared towards students who already have some familiarity with Urdu (that is, those students who have studied in English-medium schools or heritage learners outside of Pakistan who wish to further develop their language skills). We will engage with a variety of texts and genres designed to increase students' reading and speaking skills in Urdu as well as giving students a broad perspective on Urdu language and literature. There will be opportunities for writing practice with the goal of improving spelling, grammar, and vocabulary. Students will have increased familiarity with idioms, proverbs and everyday phrases. Students will practice close reading and analysis of a range of texts from across the Urdu-speaking world; we will read fiction, nonfiction, and poetry in a variety of styles and from a variety of eras. This course will be conducted online. The primary medium of instruction will be Urdu.

Beginning Urdu is a 10-week course designed for learners without any previous knowledge of Urdu language and culture. The goal of this course is to provide students with the fundamentals of Urdu grammar and help you move from novice low to novice high levels in all four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) using a curriculum designed by instructors experienced in teaching to foreign students. Using a communicative approach and an innovative blended curriculum, this course will be conducted online. The primary medium of instruction is English.
