Lahore (September 11, 2025): The Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB), University of the Punjab, celebrated an orientation week to welcome new students. Day one opened with Tilawat, Naat, and the National Anthem, followed by a welcome note by Director Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq Shaikh. Dr. Rukhsana Parveen (MPhil Coordinator) and Dr. Asif Naeem (PhD Coordinator) briefed students on academic rules and regulations. Day two started with introduction with CAMB faculty and ongoing research projects in CAMB laboratories. Day three highlighted student societies, where Dr. Muhammad Usman Ghani (Secretory, Student Societies-CAMB) described the administrative structure of the societies and all the activities conducted in the previous years. An anti-drug oath was also administered to all the students by Dr. Rukhsana. Dr. Asif Naeem briefed about anti-harassment policies. Day four featured guidance by Dr. Zafar Saleem about library resources followed by a mental health session by guest speaker Ms. Minahil Ijaz. A video message from Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah was also shared. The student members of Creative Club-CAMB, and Character Building Society-CAMB facilitated all the orientation week activities under the supervision of Dr. Farheena Iqbal Awan.

🔬 AI Tools Bootcamp: successfully held at CAMB! 🤖

On June 2, 2025, Creative Club CAMB successfully hosted a dynamic workshop titled “Unlocking Research Potential with AI Tools” at the Centre for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB), University of the Punjab, Lahore.

🎤 Led by Dr. Rabbia Tabassum (Ph.D. Molecular Biology), the session introduced participants to cutting-edge tools like SciSpace, Elicit, Research Rabbit, Zotero, Paperpal, Litmaps, and more.

🧠 Students from multiple universities gained practical insights into:

-Crafting effective research questions using AI

-Conducting smart literature reviews

-Using tools like NotebookLM for reading & notes

-Manuscript writing with Paperpal

-Boosting research productivity through AI

With hands-on activities and interactive learning, the bootcamp empowered researchers to work smarter, faster, and more efficiently.

🎥 Pre-Workshop Session Highlights | RNA-Seq Workshop 2025

As part of the upcoming RNA-Seq Data Analysis Workshop (April 28–30, 2025), we successfully conducted an online pre-workshop session on April 25, 2025 to ensure all participants are well-prepared.

Successful Conduction of Hands-on Training Workshop on Whole Exome Sequencing Data Analysis at CAMB

Lahore, April 24, 2025 – The Center for Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB), University of the Punjab, successfully conducted a one-day hands-on training workshop on Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) Data Analysis on April 24, 2025. The workshop was hosted by the Creative Club-CAMB and led by Ms. Hafsa Maqbool, a Ph.D. scholar at CAMB, as the trainer and resource person.

The training aimed to enhance participants' understanding of WES data and its practical analysis using the Exomiser tool.Participants gained practical experience in variant analysis using Exomiser, along with expert troubleshooting and real-world insights.A total of 22 participants attended the workshop.The event concluded with remarks by Dr. Muhammad Usman Ghani, who commended the active participation of all attendees. He praised the efforts of the organizing team and support staff for their dedication in executing a well-structured and impactful session. Special thanks were extended to Dr. Farheena Iqbal for her unwavering support and guidance throughout the event. Dr. Ghani also acknowledged Ms. Hafsa Maqbool for her contributions as the resource person, emphasizing the importance of such practical training in advancing genomic research skills in Pakistan.

The event was held at CAMB, University of the Punjab, with the goal of fostering knowledge and technical expertise in next-generation sequencing data analysis. It marks another milestone in CAMB's continued efforts to provide cutting-edge training to students and researchers in molecular biology.

🌾🎉 Punjab Culture Day at CAMB! 🎉🌾

Today, CAMB lit up in celebration of Punjab Culture Day, honoring the vibrant traditions and heritage of our land! The event was graced and inaugurated by the Director of CAMB Prof. Dr. Rehan Sadiq Shaikh, who appreciated the efforts to celebrate Punjabi identity and unity.

With colorful decor, traditional attire — kurta shalwar, pagri, and khussa — and a joyful atmosphere, the day was truly memorable! 💛❤️

📜 Dr. Zafar Saleem gave an enlightening talk on Shah Hussain and his literary contributions.
🎙️ Soulful Punjabi poetry was recited by Dr. Muhammad Usman Ghani, Dr. Muhammad Shahzad, and students Mr. Nouman and Mr. Natiq Ali Asghar.
🎶 Dr. Adnan Shan captivated everyone with a traditional Punjabi song.

March 17, 2025 – The Creative Club CAMB and Journal Club CEMB collaboratively organized an enlightening lecture on "Ramadan ke Adaab aur Zakat ke Masail" at the Riazuddin Auditorium, CEMB. The distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Saeed Ahmed Saeedi, Chairman of the Department of Islamic Studies at the University of the Punjab, delivered an insightful discourse on the ethical and spiritual aspects of Ramadan and the intricacies of Zakat.
The event was graced by the presence of the Directors of both centers, Dr. Rehan Sadiq and Dr. Moazur Rahman, along with faculty members and a large number of students. The audience actively participated in the thought-provoking Question & Answer session, where Dr. Saeedi addressed various queries related to Zakat calculations and its distribution.
This collaborative effort by the two clubs was highly appreciated by attendees, as it provided valuable religious guidance during the sacred month of Ramadan. The session concluded with a vote of thanks to the guest speaker and participants for their enthusiastic engagement.
