The Institute of Information Management (IIM), University of the Punjab, proudly celebrated ‘Commencement Week 2026’ with great enthusiasm, and warmly welcomed its new batch of students BS 1st Semester (4 Year) and BSAD 5th Semester (2 Year) in morning and afternoon sessions.
The week began on September 8, 2026, with a lively Orientation Session. Dr. Alia Arshad (Coordinator BS Program) introduced the faculty and staff, shared IIM’s history, and briefed students on IIM various programs, faculty achievements and their research portfolio. She also highlighted scope and job opportunities of the BS Information Management program. Dr-Irfan Ali explained the semester system, exam rules, and academic success strategies in detail.
The session also featured an inspiring address by the Director IIM, Prof-Shafiq Ur Rehman, who emphasized discipline, integrity, and lifelong learning. He urged students to make the most of IIM’s academic and extracurricular opportunities while upholding the institute’s tradition of excellence. Prof. Nosheen Fatima Warraich and Dr. Muhammad Rafiq also addressed during orientation session and motivated students to participate in sports, literary society activities and cultural events.
Dr. Amara Malik highlighted the role of ‘Alumni’ in strengthening the institute prestige. A major highlight was the “Career Counselling & High Achievers Showcase,” coordinated by Dr-Muzammil Tahira, where prominent alumni shared experiences through talks, photos, and video messages, inspiring students to aim higher.
First day orientation was followed by Dr. Muhammad Rafiq and Ms. Mehreen Tahir briefing of IIM Literary Society and Library Instruction.

IFLA Journal is an international, scholarly, peer-reviewed journal and the official journal of IFLA, publishing research, case studies, and critical scholarship on library and information services and the wider social, political, technological, and economic issues affecting access to information worldwide. Published quarterly by SAGE, the journal has a truly international readership and serves as an important platform for advancing knowledge and professional dialogue across the global library and information community. It is indexed in major scholarly databases, including SCOPUS and Web of Science, and is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The Committee works closely with IFLA’s Professional Council and plays an important role in maintaining the quality and relevance of the Journal for a global readership.

This prestigious opportunity will open great scholarly avenues for the Pakistani Library and Information Science community to contribute to the visibility and advancement of library and information management scholarship on the international stage.

Institute of Information Management, PU, Lahore conducted a day long hands-On training workshop on Advanced SPSS statistical analysis, on 24 August 2026 under the supervision of Director, Prof-Shafiq Ur Rehman. The resource person Dr-Irfan Ali demostrated and applied the advance SPSS techniques and explained the importance and use of such statistical packages in research. The session was highly useful for the participants including faculty and research students. The workshop ended with the closing remarks of Prof. Dr. Shafiq Ur Rehman, who highly appreciated the efforts of the resource person, Dr. Irfan Ali and the orginizing team for delivering & managing the workshop well on time and emphasized the importance of such professional development initiatives that address the issues of modern research skills and techniques. The participants were awarded with certificates at the end of the workshop.
