This significant event is a joint effort of Lahore College for Women University, Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi, The Women University Multan, and the University of Punjab Lahore.
The summit aims to bring together youth from across Punjab to engage in initiatives addressing the pressing issue of climate change. The Department of Environmental Science LCWU successfully hosted Earth Day 2024 celebrations at Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore, on April 18, 2024. The event aimed to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices among students.
Extended heartfelt gratitude is expressed to the staff of Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg for their dedicated efforts towards environmental protection and deep appreciation to Dr. Nighat Naheed Zafar Principal of Government Graduate College for Women Gulberg, Lahore, for her outstanding contributions to sustainability through initiatives such as plantation and kitchen gardening drives within the university campus. Her efforts have played a pivotal role in fostering a comprehensive approach towards environmental conservation. The Earth Day celebration included various activities to engage and educate participants. Students participated actively by presenting documentaries on pressing environmental issues. These documentaries served as powerful tools to educate and engage the audience. The topics covered were:

◽️Plastic Pollution
Additionally, faculty-led discussions emphasized individuals to collective action in preserving the environment. Notable speakers, including Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir, Dr. Moneeza Abbas, Dr. Hina Chaudhry, Dr. Amina Abrar, Ms. Fakhra Naveed, and Ms. Saima Atif delivered inspiring talks. Furthermore, a water testing camp was set up to highlight the importance of clean water.

Department of Environmental Science, Lahore College for Women University is organizing an Air Quality Awareness Week in collaboration with Environment Protection Department (EPD, Government of Punjab) from November 1st, 2023 to November 7th, 2023. This awareness campaign aims to educate students within the university campus about the pressing issue of smog and "air pollution" in Lahore.

An awareness walk was conducted in the university premises today, which was led by the head of department, Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir, along with all faculty members and students. To provide practical insights into air quality monitoring, the Environment Protection Department stationed an air monitoring mobile lab within the university campus. This mobile lab demonstrated the process of measuring the Air Quality Index (AQI) and various pollutants like NOx, SOx, ozone and carbon monoxide enhancing students' understanding of air quality assessment.

Head of department, Prof. Dr. Arifa Tahir, Dr. Fareeha from Environment Protection Department, faculty members of department (Dr. Moneeza Abbas and Ms. Fakhra Aslam) shared their thoughts on air pollution and shared preventive measures to mitigate smog and air pollution. The Air Quality Awareness Week will serve as an effective platform for fostering environmental consciousness and educating the academic community on the importance of addressing air pollution issues.
