Dear Colleagues,
The Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), is committed to promoting scientific research, innovation, and capacity building across Pakistan. In line with this mandate, PSF is pleased to announce the 2nd Joint Call for Collaborative Research Project Proposals between the National Science Foundation (NSF), Sri Lanka and PSF, Pakistan - 2026.
This prestigious initiative offers an excellent opportunity for Pakistani scientists, researchers, and faculty members to engage in meaningful international collaboration and contribute to impactful, solution-oriented research. The program supports joint projects of an applied nature with strong potential for innovation, commercialization, and socio-economic development in both countries. Researchers working as regular employees in HEC-recognized universities, R&D organizations, and Centers of Excellence across Pakistan are eligible to apply.
Each proposal should be led by a Principal Investigator (PI), the national-level project consortium comprising universities/R&D organizations in Pakistan, one as PI and others as Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs). Active participation by industry partners is strongly encouraged to enhance the research's practical relevance and impact. The duration of each project is two (02) years, with funding support of up to PKR 8 million (approximately USD 26,000) per project. Proposals must align with one of the following priority areas:
• Environment and Climate Change
• Herbal Medicine, Biotechnology, and Yield Improvement
• Engineering and Material Sciences
• Artificial Intelligence and Cyber Security
• Smart Agriculture and Value Addition
We encourage all FCCU faculty members and researchers to ensure maximum participation in this important initiative. PSF remains committed to excellence and collaboration in research and looks forward to your institution's active participation.
Interested applicants are required to submit their proposals through the PSF Research Grants Management System (RGMS) portal. Deadline for submission is 23rd June 2026.

In a significant step towards strengthening science-led development, the Punjab Agriculture, Food and Drug Authority (PAFDA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with (A Chartered University), Lahore.

The MoU was signed by the designated representatives of both institutions, formalizing a partnership focused on collaborative research, advanced analytical testing, laboratory capacity building, and professional training.

This collaboration is expected to bridge academia and regulatory practice, enabling innovation, improving technical capabilities, and supporting the development of robust systems across agriculture, food, water, and pharmaceutical sectors.

Dr. Samina Mehnaz, Professor at the Kauser Abdullah Malik School of Life Sciences, and Dr. Dildar Ahmed, Professor, Department of Chemistry, have been recognized in the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientist List 2025 - a testament to their outstanding research and global impact.

Honored at a special ceremony by HEC, this achievement reflects excellence, dedication, and the spirit of innovation that defines our institution.

This is for your information that applications for HEC “Six-Month International Research Fellowship for PhD Scholars” are open under the following:

1. Open to full-time PhD scholars of Pakistan & AJK enrolled in HEC-recognized institutions
2. Applicants are eligible to apply, if enrolled in PhD not earlier than Fall 2022 and not later than Fall 2024
3. Approved research topic and synopsis required (BASR/DASR or equivalent)
4. Mandatory acceptance letter from a top-ranked foreign university
5. Applicable to HEC scholarship holders (with NOC)
6. A non-refundable processing fee of Rs. 3,000/- shall be applicable
7. Deadline is May 11, 2026

Dear Colleagues,

ORIC is proud to announce that it has successfully facilitated the Department of Kauser Abdulla Malik School of Life Sciences in filing two patent applications with IPO Pakistan. We congratulate Dr. Iahtisham ul Haq, whose innovative research forms the foundation of these patents, and Dr. Bilal Sadiq, Chairperson of KAM-SLS, for this achievement. Titles of Patents are:

1. A smart edible paper for food packaging using Betalains from Red Beetroot.
2. A smart edible paper for the packaging of pH-responsive food materials.

The process was facilitated by Ms. Ayesha Aslam, Manager Innovation and Commercialization, ORIC, whose dedicated efforts ensured the smooth submission of the applications.

The patents are currently under the official examination process at IPO Pakistan. Once approved, it will further strengthen FCCU’s position as a hub of impactful research and innovation.

This milestone reflects the collaborative spirit of our researchers and ORIC’s ongoing commitment to promoting innovation, protecting intellectual property, and fostering research commercialization at FCCU.

The ORIC team encourages all researchers to share the technical disclosures of their innovative research with us, and we will ensure that their patent applications are prepared and submitted.
