Reminiscing Eureka Brainstorm ‘22: "Water Scarcity in Pakistan - Is it a Myth?"
Eureka hosted a session on July 22, 2022, to address Pakistan's water-related issues. Dr. Hassan Abbas, well known as Pakistan's water expert joined us at while Amar Guriro( ), an environmental journalist, and Dr. Aftab Alam, a hydrologist from USA joined us online.
We were able to communicate to the audience through this seminar the shortcomings in accessing and consuming water as well as more practical and efficient alternative solutions.

Mohsin has worked as an integrated water resources management and modelling expert with prestigious world-class water research and academic institutes, donors, water utilities, governments, and international consulting companies. He has authored or co-authored nearly 200 scientific publications and has supervised two MSc and 13 PhD students in the field of water resources management, agricultural water management, food security, and rural development. He has worked extensively in 14 countries (Australia, Burkina Faso, Germany, Ghana, China, Netherlands, Pakistan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Lao PDR, Uganda, UK, USA and Uzbekistan). He is an Adjunct Professor (Water Resources) with two Chinese universities. Mohsin has been based at IWMI’s office in Lahore, Pakistan, since 2019.

Hassan Abbas holds a PhD in hydrology and water resources from Michigan State University, in the US, and has worked in the water sector across three continents. In Pakistan, he was appointed as the first UNESCO chair for Integrated Water Resources Management. Currently he is engaged in master planning for water supply and stormwater drainage systems for major cities in Pakistan.

Amar Guriro is an environmental journalist and president of the National Council of Environmental Journalists (NCEJ), based in Karachi, Pakistan. He is IVLP fellow 2011. He has contributed to many international publications, including Newsweek, ABC, Dawn, Newsline, Geo News and United Press International.

Aftab Alam obtained MSc (Physics & Mathematics) Punjab U., MSc (Geophysics) Imperial College, London, and PhD (EE/IT) Southern Methodist U., Dallas, USA. He worked for 35-years in remote sensing research for oil & gas and service companies, then founded his own company, Prime Geoscience, and after 15 years licensed its technology to LMKR, a software company. He briefly taught at the U. of Houston and is now retired. He holds 5 U.S patents and has some 60 presentations or publications in IEEE, SEG, EAGE and GSH.
