The image was projected onto the plate through the camera lens.4. *Development*: The plate was exposed to mercury v***r, which caused the silver iodide to react and form an image.5. *Fixing*: The plate was treated with a solution of sodium chloride (table salt) to remove any remaining silver iodide and stabilize the image.6. *Rinsing and drying*: The plate was rinsed with water and dried to prevent any further chemical reactions.7. *Gilding*: The plate was often coated with a thin layer of gold to protect the image and give it a more attractive appearance.The resulting image was a highly detailed, positive image that appeared on the surface of the plate.
