Every student who walks into the of Physics, UET Lahore carries a dream. Some dreams lead to laboratories, some to classrooms, and some change lives in ways that few can imagine.
Dr. Mahboob Ur-Rehmanโ€™s journey is one such story.
Born and raised in Narowal, Dr. Mahboob became the first member of his family to pursue higher education away from home when he joined the MSc Applied Physics program at UET Lahore. Armed with determination, curiosity, and a passion for learning, he immersed himself in physics, spending countless hours in laboratories and classrooms, laying the foundation for a remarkable career.

His academic excellence earned him admission to the prestigious Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), where he graduated with distinction. He later joined the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) as a Medical Physicist, contributing to cancer treatment programs and radiation safety initiatives across Pakistan.
But his ambitions extended beyond personal success. Driven by a desire to push the boundaries of knowledge and improve healthcare through science, he pursued advanced studies in the United States. The journey was filled with challenges, sacrifices, and personal hardships, yet he remained steadfast in his commitment to excellence.
Today, Dr. Mahboob serves as a Proton Physicist in the United States, working at the cutting edge of cancer treatment. His work combines physics, medicine, and advanced technology to deliver highly precise proton therapy, helping save and improve the lives of cancer patients every day.
His story powerfully demonstrates that Physics is far more than equations and theories. It is a discipline that enables groundbreaking medical technologies, advances human health, and creates opportunities to make a meaningful difference in society. From medical imaging and radiation therapy to artificial intelligence in healthcare, physicists play a vital role in modern medicine.
For our current students and future physicists, Dr. Mahboobโ€™s journey carries an important message:
