As Aga Khan School, Kharadar celebrates its Centennial Year (1926–2026), we proudly feature Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq, whose journey from the classrooms of Kharadar to becoming an accomplished orthodontist, educator and researcher reflects the strong foundation of learning, discipline and curiosity nurtured at the school.

During his school years, Dr. Ashfaq consistently excelled academically, receiving several shields, certificates and awards. Yet, some of his strongest memories are of the teachers who shaped him — Miss Anita, Miss Aneela Aziz, Sir Irshad, Miss Afshan, Sir Aziz, Sir Haider, Sir Abbas and Miss Khairunnisa. Their guidance helped build the confidence, discipline and commitment to learning that he carries with him today.

He also fondly remembers participating in a Grade VII performance at the Arts Council, where students performed “Ye Watan Tumhara Hai” by Mehdi Hassan — a memory that continues to connect him with the pride and spirit of his school days.

After matriculation, Dr. Ashfaq studied at D.J. Sindh Government Science College and went on to complete his BDS from Karachi Medical and Dental College in 2011, followed by FCPS in Orthodontics in 2020. He later served as an Instructor in Orthodontics at Aga Khan University Hospital.

Today, alongside his clinical practice, he contributes to the education and mentorship of future dentists. His research interests include orthodontics, craniofacial development, smile aesthetics and CBCT-based diagnostics, with his work presented at national and international academic forums.

For Dr. Ashfaq, the impact of Aga Khan School, Kharadar went well beyond textbooks. Project-based and inquiry-based learning encouraged him to question, explore, collaborate and solve problems — skills that continue to guide him as a clinician, educator and researcher.

From a young student at Aga Khan School, Kharadar to a healthcare professional contributing to clinical practice, education and research, Dr. Muhammad Ashfaq’s story is another chapter in our 100-year legacy of nurturing individuals who continue to make a difference.

🚴‍♀️ 𝗣𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿 𝗙𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗮 – 𝗣𝗲𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲!

𝗔𝗴𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗚𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗻 proudly celebrates Pinar Fatima, whose cycling journey began at just 4 years old. What started as play soon grew into a passion with purpose.

Today, at 13, Pinar uses cycling to raise awareness for causes including education, healthcare, and prevention of substance abuse, while exploring new places and learning about the world around her.

Recently, she achieved her 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘆𝗲𝘁 – 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝟳𝟱 𝗞𝗠 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲! 🚴‍♀️👏 At just 9 years old, she had already completed an impressive 64 KM ride.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝟲𝟰 𝗞𝗠 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟵 𝘁𝗼 𝟳𝟱 𝗞𝗠 𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝟭𝟯, Pinar’s journey reflects courage, determination, consistency, and the power of pursuing a passion with purpose.

With the continued encouragement of her father, Pinar keeps moving forward — 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗮 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲. 🌟

𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵 𝗔𝗴𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 – 𝗔𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗳𝘁 proudly celebrates the extraordinary achievement of 𝗦𝘆𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗯𝗱𝘂𝗹 𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗶, who successfully summited 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸 (𝟱,𝟰𝟬𝟬𝗺+) in Deosai on 14 August 2026. 🇵🇰

At just 𝟭𝟮 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗹𝗱, Hadi became the 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗸 — an incredible milestone reflecting courage, discipline, perseverance, and determination.

His achievement has been formally recognised by the Alpine Club of Pakistan and the Sindh Alpine Association with a Shield of Appreciation and Certificate, and his inspiring accomplishment was also featured in the newspaper.

Reaching new heights on Pakistan’s Independence Day made this achievement even more special. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝗛𝗮𝗱𝗶 — 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗱𝗲 𝘂𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱! 🌟🇵🇰

As Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Kharadar celebrates its Centennial Year (1926–2026), we proudly feature Dr. Rehan Jamshed, whose journey reflects the school’s enduring tradition of nurturing academic excellence, creativity, confidence, and lifelong learning.

Dr. Rehan joined Aga Khan School, Kharadar in Grade VI in 1987. He fondly remembers the school’s vibrant learning environment, culture of discipline, and teachers who encouraged students to excel both inside and beyond the classroom. Among those who left a lasting impression were Miss Zahida, Sir Karamatullah, Sir Noshad, Miss Atia, Sattar Sir, Miss Yasmeen, and Miss Rehana.

🎨 His school years were also shaped by remarkable opportunities to develop his artistic talent. He had the honour of presenting a portrait to former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, for which he received a personal letter of appreciation and signed photograph. He also appeared on PTV’s children’s programme Umang, presented artwork to Hakim Mohammed Said, and received recognition from renowned Pakistani artist Gulgee.

These experiences strengthened his confidence and creativity and encouraged him to continue striving for excellence.

Driven by curiosity and a passion for innovation, Dr. Rehan went on to earn a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Italy. Today, he serves as Director – Mechanical Design in a Government Organization, contributing to advanced engineering design and technological development.

🌍 His professional journey also includes significant research contributions in mechanical, aerospace, marine, and composite structures engineering, with work published in internationally recognised journals. His areas of expertise include structural analysis, finite element modelling, composite materials, pressure vessel design, and engineering innovation.

Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Rehan credits his school years with helping develop many of the qualities he continues to rely on today — critical thinking, problem-solving, discipline, creativity, teamwork, and resilience.

As we celebrate 100 years of excellence, we proudly honour Dr. Rehan Jamshed — from a talented young student and artist at Kharadar to an accomplished engineer, researcher, and leader.

𝗔𝗴𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹, 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗮𝗿 proudly celebrates 𝗦𝗮𝗵𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗺’𝘀 selection for the prestigious 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗣𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 in Devon, United Kingdom.

Selected from 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝟭,𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝗿𝗼𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻, Sahraim joined young people from eight countries for a three-week immersive experience focused on dialogue, leadership, empathy, critical thinking, and conflict resolution.

Through dialogue sessions, collaborative challenges, leadership activities, and cultural exchange, the experience provided an incredible opportunity to 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻, 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁, 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘄 alongside young people from around the world.

We congratulate Sahraim on this remarkable achievement and look forward to seeing her use this experience to inspire 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲.

As Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Kharadar celebrates 100 years of excellence (1926–2026), we proudly share the story of Professor Dr. Rozina Karmaliani, a distinguished alumna whose remarkable journey has contributed to transforming nursing education, public health, research, and healthcare leadership in Pakistan and beyond.

A globally recognised nurse scientist and academic leader, Professor Dr. Karmaliani has dedicated more than three decades to strengthening health systems and improving the lives of women, children, adolescents, older adults, and vulnerable communities.

Her educational journey began at Aga Khan School, Kharadar, where she completed her primary education. She fondly remembers Ms. Shamim and Ms. Mehrun, whose teaching nurtured in her the values of humanity, creativity, and patriotism and encouraged her love for poetry and service to Pakistan.

Among her teachers, Ms. Gulshan holds a particularly special place in her journey. In Grade 5, Ms. Gulshan recognised her potential and personally supported her in strengthening her English while mentoring her in science and mathematics. Her guidance extended beyond academics to confidence building, life skills, and career choices. Even five decades later, Professor Dr. Karmaliani remembers her with immense gratitude and affection.

Her academic journey eventually took her to the University of Minnesota, where she became the first Pakistani nurse to earn a PhD in Nursing. Rather than remaining abroad, she returned to Pakistan with a commitment to contribute to the development of nursing and healthcare, joining Aga Khan University and dedicating her career to education, research, and service.

At Aga Khan University, Professor Dr. Karmaliani has held several significant leadership positions. She served as Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery from 2020–2022, becoming its first alumna and youngest Dean. She also played a pivotal role in advancing nursing education through landmark initiatives, including the launch of Pakistan’s first Master of Science in Nursing programme in 2001 and PhD in Nursing programme in 2015.

Today, she serves as Associate Director, Brain and Mind Institute, Aga Khan University (South & Central Asia); Khadija Bhai Mohan Manji Dharolia Endowed Chair; Professor, School of Nursing and Midwifery and Department of Community Health Sciences; Director, Centre for Graceful Aging; and Adjunct Faculty, Institute for Global Health and Development.

Her influence extends beyond Pakistan, with contributions to nursing education, research, and health systems strengthening across East Africa, Afghanistan, Syria, and Egypt. Her research has addressed critical areas including women’s, child and adolescent health, gender-based violence prevention, mental health and su***de prevention, nursing education, implementation science, health systems strengthening, and health equity.

Her contributions have earned significant national and international recognition. She was named among the World Health Organization’s Global 100 Outstanding Women Nurse and Midwife Leaders (2020) and received the Women Leaders Award by HUM Television Network (2022). Her honours also include the Juran Fellowship Award for Leadership in Quality, the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals from the University of Minnesota, and the Sitara-e-Nursing Pakistan 2026.

Among her most significant international achievements, Professor Dr. Karmaliani became the first nurse from Pakistan to be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing (FAAN)—one of the highest honours in the nursing profession.

Reflecting on her formative years, her story demonstrates how the encouragement of a teacher and the foundations built during childhood can continue to influence a person decades later. Her decision to return to Pakistan and contribute to strengthening nursing education reflects the values of service and purpose nurtured from her earliest years.

From the classrooms of Kharadar to global healthcare leadership, Professor Dr. Rozina Karmaliani’s journey represents a lifetime of learning, service, compassion, and impact.

As we celebrate 100 years of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School, Kharadar, we proudly honour an alumna whose achievements continue to elevate the nursing profession and inspire future generations to use their knowledge and leadership in service of society.

The young learners of 𝗦𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗵 𝗔𝗴𝗮 𝗞𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 – 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 celebrated Independence Day with enthusiasm, joy, and pride. 💚

Through vibrant performances, heartfelt expressions, and joyful activities, our little learners celebrated 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗼𝗺, 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗣𝗮𝗸𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻.
