In recognition of the 16 Days of Activism, Carrying Life in Crisis: How Climate Change Endangers Mothers in Pakistan by Hafsa Johar Iqbal, a member of our team, brings attention to the silent emergencies unfolding in climate-stricken communities. The piece highlights how rising temperatures, worsening floods, and weakened health systems are creating new frontlines where pregnant women face heightened risks and compromised dignity.

As climate-induced maternal challenges intensify, they threaten women’s health, autonomy, and survival especially those already living at the margins. This moment calls on us to reflect, advocate, and demand stronger protections that ensure every woman can experience pregnancy and childbirth safely, even amid a changing climate.

Q & A consultants joined us for an infornative session on career counseling. The session focused on helping students explore academic and professional pathways, identify opportunities, and gain clarity about their future careers. It was encouraging to see such active participation and thoughtful questions from our students.

Grateful for the engagement and excited to continue supporting our students as they navigate their career journeys.

Digital Violence and the Erosion of Women’s Security Online, written by Laiba Arshad Habib, a member of our team, reminds us that the 16 Days of Activism is a crucial period to acknowledge that violence against women is not limited to physical spaces. Today, digital platforms have become new arenas where harassment, intimidation, and silencing continue to undermine women’s dignity and participation.

As online abuse escalates, it threatens women’s leadership, mental well-being, and their ability to engage safely in public life. This moment urges us to reflect, advocate, and push for stronger protections that ensure women can speak, work, and lead without fear — offline and online.

Beneath the promise of innovation lies a darker reality: the rise of AI-driven image-based abuse is deepening gender inequalities and creating a new frontier of psychological, social, and human rights violations against women.

C-MACR is leading efforts to educate communities, amplify survivor experiences, and push for meaningful reform to ensure technology serves empowerment, not oppression.

In observance of the UN's 16 Days of Activism, C-MACR highlights the long-term consequences of online harassment and reinforces the urgent need for safer, more accountable digital environments.

Through this initiative, we aim to deepen awareness of how technology-facilitated abuse shapes behaviour, impacts psychological well-being, and undermines equality. By fostering informed dialogue and advocating for preventive measures, we reaffirm our commitment to creating online spaces that uphold dignity, respect, and human security.

At the Centre for Mediation, Arbitration & Conflict Resolution (C-MACR), our compass is set firmly towards inquiry. Research is the engine that keeps us moving, asking better questions, and challenging what we think we know about dispute resolution

Our latest study dives into a longstanding debate in international arbitration:
“Unified International Arbitration Rules vs. National Diversity — Which Better Serves Arbitration Users?”

This work gave us the space to examine how harmonisation, legal certainty, procedural flexibility, and user-driven adaptability are shaping today’s arbitration ecosystem. Each strand reveals something about what users value and what the future of arbitration may quietly be becoming.

We’re delighted to share some wonderful news! Hafsa Johar Iqbal, a student of SZABIST University (LLB – University of London Programme) and one of our core members (C-MACR), was selected as one of only two participants from Sindh for the highly competitive “COP in My City Competition 2025”, organized and funded by the Government of Pakistan Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Youth for Climate Pakistan, the Prime Minister’s Youth Program, and UNICEF.

Hafsa won the provincial round held at Aga Khan University and was subsequently invited to NUST Islamabad for the grand national finale. There, she was the only recipient of the Runner-Up Certificate from Sindh at the national level.

We congratulate Hafsa on this outstanding achievement and her remarkable contribution to youth climate advocacy!
