The Business Entity Concept is a core accounting principle that requires the business to be treated as a separate accounting unit, distinct from its owner(s) or stakeholders. This principle ensures that all financial transactions related to the business are recorded independently of the personal financial activities of its proprietors. It applies regardless of the legal form of the business—be it a sole proprietorship, partnership, or corporation. By maintaining a clear distinction between business and personal finances, this concept promotes accuracy, consistency, and objectivity in financial reporting. It allows stakeholders to assess the true financial performance and position of the business, free from the influence of non-business-related transactions

✅ Example:
Let’s say Sarah starts a small business called Sarah's Bakery.
Sarah puts in $10,000 from her personal savings to start the bakery. She also buys a personal phone for $800.

🧾 According to the Business Entity Concept:
• We record $10,000 as capital in the bakery’s books (because Sarah is investing in the business).
• But the $800 phone is NOT recorded, because it is a personal expense, not related to the business.
🍞 Now suppose the bakery earns $5,000 profit.
• That $5,000 belongs to the business — not directly to Sarah (yet).
• When Sarah takes out money from the business for personal use (called drawings), we record it separately.

🧠 Key Point to Remember:
Even if one person owns the business, in accounting we always treat the owner and the business as two separate "persons".
