On 7th February 2026, 47 post-primary government schools from different corners of the Hyderabad district came together at GBHSS Qasimabad for the , the year’s largest celebration of creativity, interdisciplinary problem-solving, and STEAM learning for post-primary schools in the district. 423 students, and 141 teachers competed across four challenges, pitching and presenting their projects on , , and .

For the challenge, girls from GGHS Unit No. 6 Latifabad built an "open tree library,” a sculpture where the branches were made from shopping bags and the leaves from pages of old books. The piece drew a connection between deforestation and the decline of reading and learning. They said that the forest cover in Pakistan has decreased to 3% and the majority of libraries in Sindh are not functional, pointing to problems of environmental degradation and lack of reading spaces in the country. Talking about the process of coming up with the idea of their gender inequality sculpture, the students of GGHS Mirza Qaleech Baig said: “Our brothers are allowed to go outside. We are not."

The students of GGELS Karan Khan Shoro showed a girl student studying in the 9th grade as their sculpture. They explained that since their school has classes until 8th grade only, the girls in their area are either married off or become bound to their homes after finishing middle school. Therefore, they want a higher secondary school in their area. For the teachers’ challenge , GGLSS Bachal Chandio Qasimabad proposed two classroom redesigns. The first was a U-shaped layout so that shy students wouldn't feel hidden or left out. The second involved rotating student groupings so that different students get to take the lead, not only the ones who usually do.

A distinguished panel of 33 judges from Da Vinci Art Studio & Gallery, University of Sindh, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, ibex. Pakistan, DCAR, Systems Limited and other organizations evaluated the projects with rigour and admiration using the detailed challenge-wise rubrics prepared and provided by the STEAM Policy Unit, Sindh.

Notable attendees included Syed Rasool Bux Shah, Director STEDA; Mehmood Chohan, Divisional President GASTA, and Mumtaz Ali Khahro, Director DSE ES&HS Hyderabad Region. The district-level competition was organized by the District Education Office (Hyderabad), led by the DEO Aziz Rehman Dahot, DFP Muhammad Ahsan, and District Coordinator Oojala Tasneem, and was guided and supported by Asma Bhatti, Regional Focal Person for STEAM and Deputy Director (QA), DSE ES&HS Hyderabad Region.

Eager confident schoolchildren showcased their inventive ideas for fun playscapes they wanted to build in their schools, explaining the thought behind each feature to visitors ranging from the Deputy Commissioner to a visiting toddler. Some of the highlights of the Design a Playscape challenge in Badin included:

A thirst for equity and justice was a theme in another challenge titled . Students were invited to comment on a change they envisioned through a sculpture, with the curious restriction of using only trash and no art supplies to build it. Early marriages, the practice of dowry, lack of access to education for girls and environmental pollution, were featured as things the young students wanted to change. For the challenge, students designed improved versions of rickshaws or bikes such as retractable steps for the elderly and added springs to improve rickshaw suspension for bumpy roads. Passionate teachers were competing too - presenting their recommendations for the challenge.

The district education leadership, championing in schools throughout the year and now having organised their 2nd successive annual , termed the STEAM Muqablo a revolution in the government school system.

"We have spent weeks organising this competition to ensure that both the competitors and the hundreds of visitors actively participate in this celebration of learning and creativity," added Anwar Parabi, District Education Officer - ES&HS Badin who, along with Muhammad Khan Samoon, District Focal Person for STEAM, were the proud hosts of the grand event.

Twenty judges from independent organisations, including the Environment Protection Agency Sindh, Sindh University Laar Campus, Badin, National Motorway, United Energy Pakistan Limited, Turkish Engineering Company, and the Ministry of Climate Change, Govt of Pakistan, evaluated the projects. Visitors left the event truly impressed by the students' thoughtfulness, research and creativity, noting that their teachers must have worked very hard to achieve the quality of their projects.

“The parents of our girl students were not allowing them to travel to this competition, but I personally visited their homes to convince them to send their champion children to participate and look how they are shining” shared Imran Khaskheli, a beaming teacher from Government Boys Lower Secondary School Nizamani Mohalla Matli, proudly supporting his students' sculpture of a trash-collecting robot. Many teachers and Principals shared similar stories, a testament to their commitment to advancing opportunities for their students.
