Particle physics is a branch of physics that investigates the smallest and most fundamental components of matter and the forces that govern their interactions. These particles are governed by the Standard Model, a theoretical framework describing three of the four fundamental forces: electromagnetism, the strong nuclear force, and the weak nuclear force. Modern particle physics relies heavily on advanced experimental techniques, particularly in large-scale facilities like the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. These high-energy particle accelerators smash particles together at incredible speeds, recreating conditions similar to those shortly after the Big Bang. Such experiments have led to groundbreaking discoveries, including the confirmation of the Higgs boson in 2012.
