Coventry University are celebrating the opening of their £55 million state of the art engineering and computing building by launching a new scholarship scheme. Up to 55 scholarships to a total value of £200,000 will be awarded to talented students joining the university in January and September 2013.

Scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis and applicants will need to submit a 500 word essay on how they will use the qualification they gain from Coventry University to contribute to the field of engineering and computing.

Who can apply for the scholarship?

The scholarship is open to all undergraduate and postgraduate international students wishing to join a degree programme within the Faculty of Engineering and Computing.

The value of scholarships available are:

Undergraduate – £4,500
Undergraduate top up – £2,500
Postgraduate – £2,500

Application Deadline

For January 2013 intake - 3rd December 2012.
For September 2013 intake - 28th June 2013

Times league table brings further boost to Coventry University’s rankings

Coventry University has received a further boost in the national rankings today with a rise of 21 places to 55th overall in The Times Good University Guide 2013, making it the UK’s most improved institution.

The University’s latest leap in the league tables follows last month’s improvement in the Guardian newspaper’s university guide for 2013, which saw Coventry climb 17 places to 46th overall.

According to the Times’ guide – which takes into account measures such as student satisfaction ratings, research excellence, expenditure on student services and graduate prospects – Coventry is in the top five of post-1992 universities in the UK.

The guide identifies the positive student feedback levels in recent years as a significant factor in the University’s rise, with strong ratings in teaching quality, assessment and feedback from tutors, academic support and personal development all contributing to the upward movement in the rankings in 2013.

Professor Madeleine Atkins, vice-chancellor of Coventry University, said:

“The recent changes to higher education in the UK mean that it’s more important than ever for universities to deliver a quality experience for students, and this latest improvement is a reflection of the hard work of our staff to ensure we not only meet, but exceed, our students’ expectations.

“Excellent teaching, strong levels of support and feedback from tutors, and an array of work placement and international opportunities remain at the forefront of what we offer, ensuring that our students leave us with good degrees and a thorough preparation for graduate-level employment.”

The Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Coventry University are looking to develop 4 new postgraduate courses:

• MSc Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering
• MSc Automotive Manufacturing Engineering
• MBA Aerospace Manufacturing
• MBA Automotive Manufacturing

The rationale behind these potential new courses is that manufacturing is recognized as an important part of the economy and for many regions, this is a growing sector. As manufacturing develops within these regions away from the low cost base, it will be required to become more competitive to be successful in the global market place.

Suitably qualified manufacturing engineers will therefore be required to evaluate and improve the manufacturing facilities to help achieve this level of competitiveness.
