The Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC) at Baqai Medical University, in collaboration with Burque Corporation, Pakistan's largest Shariah-compliant distribution firm, successfully organized a Training Workshop and Recruitment Drive on 6th November 2024 for students from the Baqai Institute of Health Management Sciences and Baqai Institute of Information Technology.

This impactful event provided students from diverse educational backgrounds a valuable opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the distribution sector. In addition to a deep dive into industry-specific knowledge, students also participated in rigorous online assessments, testing their skills and competencies to qualify for various exciting roles within Burque Corporation.

ORIC at BMU remains dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry, continuously fostering meaningful linkages with other Higher Education Institutions and corporate partners. An MoU was signed on October 29, 2024, between Baqai Medical University ORIC and Sohail University ORIC to promote research initiatives, knowledge sharing, and collaborative conferences, symposiums, and training sessions. Dr. Sabeeh Jaffery, the Registrar of Sohail University, graced the ceremony with his presence.

The Manager Innovation & Commercialization at the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization, was invited to attend the 21st Health Asia conference on 19 October 2024, which focused on advancing medical device development in Pakistan. Representing Baqai Medical University and its ORIC, the event was enriched by insightful talks from Prof. Dr. Syed Shahid Noor, Chairman of Saman-e-Shifa, Mr. Zubair Motiwala, CEO of TDAP, and Brigadier Tarique Lakhiar (R), CEO of Sindh Integrated Health & Emergency Services.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, between Baqai Medical University- ORIC and Advanced Laboratories (Pvt.) Ltd. (A LAB) to promote research, innovation, commercialization, and capacity-building initiatives. Established in 1986, Advanced Laboratories (Pvt.) Ltd. is dedicated to enhancing healthcare standards across Pakistan by facilitating R&D-based organizations with new diagnostic technologies and methodologies. The company also actively collaborates with the medical profession through technical partnerships, publications, and participation in seminars.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Israr Ahmed Khan, the honorable Registrar of Baqai Medical University, and Ms. Meher Nagaria, Corporate Manager of Advanced Laboratories. The ORIC team was also present as eye witnesses, including Mr. Syed Fauzan Ali, Manager of Innovation and Commercialization, and Dr. Nazish Waris, Manager of Research.

Also present at the event were the honorable Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, Vice-Chancellor of Baqai Medical University, Prof. Dr. Kashif Ikram, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, and Dr. Rafique Khanani, Head of the Department of Pathology BMU, who all graced the event with their presence.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University (SMBBMU), Larkana, and Baqai Medical University, Karachi, in a ceremony held at the Meeting Hall of Baqai Medical University Karachi.

The MoU was signed on 30th August 2024 by Prof. Dr. Nusrat Shah, Vice Chancellor and Dr. Mir Hassan Khoso, Director ORIC from SMBBMU with Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Siddiqui, Vice Chancellor and Dr. Nazeer Khan, Director ORIC from BMU Karachi.

This agreement symbolizes a shared commitment to fostering collaboration in various areas, including student, faculty, and officer exchange programs. It also outlines cooperative efforts in academics, research, and development, as well as the organization of joint workshops, conferences, and training initiatives.

On July 22, 2024, Baqai Medical University's Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. This collaboration marks a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing academic and research excellence. The MoU, signed by Mr. Israr Ahmed Khan, Registrar of BMU, and Prof. Dr. Nabila Najam Soomro, Executive Director of the Sindh Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, outlines a comprehensive framework for cooperation on academic programs, the development of joint research initiatives, and the exchange of academic staff and facilities to bolster teaching and research activities. It also includes provisions for student exchange and visiting programs, fostering a dynamic and interconnected academic community. Additionally, both institutions will collaborate to establish robust entrepreneurship programs, driving innovation and practical application of research. This partnership underscores a shared commitment to advancing educational and research standards, ultimately contributing to the betterment of healthcare and rehabilitation services in the region.
