Department of Microbiology - JUW Department of Microbiology is committed to a highly interactive atmosphere where students and faculty flourish.

Microbiology answers big questions by giving us knowledge of very small things.It gives us insights into the complexity of nature and society, which in turn provide many different health, environmental, social, cultural, industrial and economic benefits. Microbiologists are involved in addressing challenges that vary from urgent problems demanding immediate solutions, such as new and emerging diseases, through to long-term issues, like antimicrobial drug resistance, food security and environmental sustainability. When the discipline of microbiology is strong and intellectually vibrant, we have a better chance of finding solutions to these problems, and building a healthier, more sustainable and more prosperous future.. The huge variety of microbes and the range of ways in which they affect us mean that microbiology is an enormously varied and constantly changing subject. Reflecting this diversity, microbiology intersects with many other disciplines in the natural and social sciences and is a vital element of studies in a large range of different fields.  Our main mission is to aware the society about microbiology , and reduce the risk of newly emerging diseases.
 Our mission is to promote and advance the microbial sciences, as a vehicle for understanding life processes and to apply and communicate this knowledge for the improvement of health and environmental and economic worldwide.

The Department of Microbiology at successfully organized an insightful and highly informative educational trip for BS 4th Year students on 30th April 2026 to (PRI) and (SIAH), Livestock & Fisheries Department, Government of Sindh, Karachi. 🧫🔬🐓
This enriching and memorable experience provided students with valuable practical exposure, enhanced their scientific understanding, and strengthened their knowledge in the fields of microbiology, animal health, diagnostics, and research practices.
During the visit, students had an interactive session with professionals, observed laboratory procedures, and gained awareness about modern diagnostic and research techniques being implemented in the field. Such educational activities play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between academia and industry while preparing students for future scientific and professional challenges.

The pre-conference workshop of the 6th International Conference on Biological Research and Applied Sciences (IBRAS 2026) was successfully held on 16 January 2026 at the Department of Microbiology, Jinnah University for Women. The workshop focused on rapid kit-based identification of key Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, providing hands-on learning and practical insights into rapid diagnostic techniques. The session was well received and set a strong academic tone for IBRAS 2026.
