The session was conducted by digital media experts Rehan Shahid and Aman Sohail, who provided our students with practical, hands-on guidance on navigating the evolving digital media landscape.

During the session, the speakers demonstrated how students can leverage accessible, free AI tools to produce high-quality video content without needing expensive software.

Beyond video production, the experts shared valuable digital media strategies, offering practical insights into managing social media profiles and exploring potential monetisation opportunities as AI-driven content creators. In today’s fast-moving media industry, mastering these emerging tools is essential, and we extend our sincere gratitude to Rehan Shahid and Aman Sohail for empowering our future media professionals with such relevant, actionable knowledge.

The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), University of Karachi, organized a seminar on “Childhood Cancer Awareness” today at the Chinese Memorial Auditorium, University of Karachi, with the aim of creating awareness among students and faculty about childhood cancers, their early warning signs, diagnosis, treatment and the importance of timely medical intervention.

The seminar featured Dr. Uzma Imam, Head of Pediatric Oncology, National Institute of Child Health (NICH), Karachi, as the keynote speaker along with Dr Javed. Ms Sumbul, a representative from the Child Aid Association, joined the seminar. Dr Uzma Imam spoke in detail about childhood cancer, emphasizing the importance of early detection, proper diagnosis and timely treatment. She also highlighted the role of parents, teachers, healthcare professionals and society in recognizing warning signs and supporting children affected by cancer.

The program provided an informative platform for students and faculty members to learn about the challenges faced by children with cancer and the significance of awareness in improving treatment outcomes. The interactive session also provided participants an opportunity to ask questions and discuss various aspects of childhood cancer.

Speaking on the occasion, Director QEC, University of Karachi Prof Dr Zaid Ahmed Pirzada, emphasized that universities have an important role not only in academic and research excellence but also in promoting awareness about important health and social issues.

The Director QEC expressed gratitude to Dr. Uzma Imam for sharing her valuable expertise and for her contribution to childhood cancer awareness. He also appreciated the efforts of the QEC team, students and staff who contributed to making the program possible.

University of Karachi and UM Enterprises Sign MoU to Advance Poultry Research and Industry Collaboration

Three-year partnership will support postgraduate research, technical exchange, applied projects, and industry-responsive scientific development

KARACHI, 23 September 2026 — The University of Karachi and UM Enterprises today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a structured partnership between industry and academia in veterinary and poultry sciences. The agreement brings together the academic and research strengths of the Department of Physiology’s Poultry Science Program and the technical knowledge, market experience, and industry network of UM Enterprises.
The collaboration is designed to connect university research with practical industry needs. Under the MoU, the two institutions will facilitate research projects for postgraduate students, including MPhil, and PhD scholars; undertake joint studies in areas of mutual interest; exchange scientific and technical expertise; and organize seminars, workshops, and technical meetings. Laboratory access may also be provided, subject to availability and prior approval.
A central feature of the partnership is the participation of industry in research development. UM Enterprises may support approved projects through mutually agreed funding for consumables, testing, field trials, and related research requirements, while also providing technical guidance and a designated focal person. The University will identify eligible scholars, provide qualified academic supervision, facilitate laboratory and academic support, and ensure that applicable ethical and regulatory requirements are met.

The MoU represents an important step in the University of Karachi’s continuing effort to strengthen meaningful engagement with industry. By aligning academic inquiry with real operational challenges, the partnership is expected to enhance the relevance of postgraduate research, expand opportunities for students and faculty, and encourage evidence-based solutions for the poultry and allied veterinary sectors.

For the Poultry Science Program, the collaboration will help create a stronger pathway from classroom learning and laboratory investigation to field application. It will also promote a culture in which universities and industry jointly identify research priorities, share expertise, and develop knowledge that can contribute to productivity, innovation, and sustainable development in Pakistan’s poultry sector.

The agreement was signed on behalf of the University of Karachi by Prof. Dr. Muhamad Naeem Khan, Director, Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization. UM Enterprises was represented by Mr. Muhammad Sami, Manager Research and Development and Mr. Ehtasham. Prof. Dr. Taseer Ahmed Khan, Coordinator, BS Poultry Science, and Dr. Muhammad Sami Khan will serve as the focal persons for coordination between the two institutions. The event was also attended by Dr. Lubna Naz, Chairperson, Department of Physiology, University of Karachi.
