On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, the team of The PEARLS Welfare Foundation, comprising Ms. Almas Bano, Co-Founder & CEO, and Mr. Sadaqat Abro, attended the seminar "Pakistan's Energy Security: The Reality for Working People" at the Karachi Press Club, alongside Dr. Kaiser Bengali, Senior Economist & Public Policy Expert.
The session offered a timely and insightful discussion on Pakistan's energy security, the Federal Budget 2026–27, and the pressing need for people-centered, pro-poor policy solutions, particularly in light of rising inflation, escalating energy costs, and the growing impacts of climate change on working communities.
During the discussion, Ms. Almas Bano raised the issue of how prolonged load shedding disproportionately affects Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), whose essential mobility equipment — including wheelchairs and assistive devices — depend heavily on a stable electricity supply. Extended power outages significantly restrict their mobility, independence, and access to daily life, an often-overlooked dimension of energy insecurity. Dr. Kaiser Bengali acknowledged this concern, reaffirming the importance of mainstreaming disability considerations into energy and climate policy discourse.
Special thanks to Tahir Hasan Khan, President, Karachi Union of Journalists, for his continued support in facilitating such important platforms for policy dialogue.
The PEARLS Welfare Foundation remains grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vital conversation on inclusive, pro-poor economic and climate policy.
