Wisdom Tooth Extraction/ Odontectomy

Wisdom tooth is the last tooth in the oral cavity, one in each quadrant. It usually errupt at the age of 17 till 25. In some people it don't get enough space to come into oral cavity and errupt in abnormal position causing damage to its adjacent teeth, cheek bitting, dental caries and jaw joint problem ( TMJ problem).

Here the patient has complain of cheek bitting and TMJ problem as 3rd molar don't get sufficient space in the jaw to come into oral cavity so both were removed under local anaesthesia.

A 19 year old girl patient come to OPD with the complain of painless swelling on his palate behind central incisor since 2 year. She said that the swelling has not increase such in size, no complain of bleeding, no pus discharge, all tooth were vital but oral hygiene was poor. No other swelling in the mouth.
On examination the swelling was painless, no ulceration, non vascular, pink in color, pedenculated, soft, fibrotic and slightly movable.
D/D of traumatic or irritation fibroma and pyogenic granuloma was made.
Excision was done and tissue was send for biopsy for definitive diagnosis.
Scaling was done in next appointment

You should get your scaling done once or twice every year and you should see your dentist twice yearly. Good oral hygiene will not only prevent halitosis but also the cavities and gum diseases.

💭Have you ever got your teeth replaced with a crown/bridge or got other general dental procedures(filling, etc) done, then you might have encountered a discoloration as a result of these procedures on gums or elsewhere in the mouth, known as amalgam tattoo!

💥Amalgam tatoo is black, gray or blue discoloration on mumous membrance (gums) of oral cavity.

💥It develops when a piece of amalgam filling material becomes inadvertently lodged in the oral mucosa. It's a common painless, benign lesion.

💥No treatment is required since the lesion is benign and you may require an x-ray for it. Some suggest biopsy as a precautionary measure for it.

💭A 17 years old girl came to OPD with the complain of sensitivity and have esthetic issue. After complete history and clinical examination we conclude that she has MOLAR INCISOR HYPOPLASIA ( MIH ).

💥MIH is a hypoplastic condition of systemic origin involving permanent dentition in which either anyone 1st molar or all four 1st molars are affected and frequently associated with incisors.

💥So in this case after removing soft caries from all affected teeth, they were restored with resin composite with margins on hypoplastic or sound enamel.
