The Corruption of Pakistani Generals | The king makers That Steal | Rehan Khan
Chapter 1 (01:00)
Afghanistan: The War That Changed Everything
THE GREAT GAME AND THE GENERAL WHO SOLD A LIE
Taraki's Revolution · The PDPA · Soviet Invasion · Zia ul-Haq · The Warm Waters Myth · The Billion-Dollar Pipeline · The Gang of Four.
In 1978, Afghanistan's communist PDPA government launched land reforms, literacy campaigns, and women's education.
The Khans and tribal elders manipulate religious dogma, convincing the poor that the government’s free land is "stolen from Allah". They frame the Marxist land policies not as economic liberation, but as an atheistic war against Islam. This incites fierce, localized uprisings, fracturing the country and setting the stage for the Soviet invasion.
Across villages, rumors spread that the communists were "kafirs."
Rebellion erupted.
Then, in December 1979, Soviet troops entered Afghanistan.
Pakistan's ruler, General Zia-ul-Haq, suddenly found himself at the center of the Cold War.
Billions of American and Saudi dollars flowed into Pakistan through the Afghan Jihad.
The very wealth the Khans sought to protect is replaced by billions in superpower cash, which is then hoarded by the Pakistani generals orchestrating the holy war.
"The war would not only transform Afghanistan—it would reshape Pakistan's military establishment forever."
Chapter 2 (09:20)
The He**in Highway
General Fazle Haq · The Poppy Pipeline · ISI Protection · Pakistan's Narco Decade ·
Alongside weapons came another business.
He**in.
During the 1980s, the Afghan-Pakistan border became one of the world's largest narcotics routes.
Drug money, warlords, smugglers, and corruption flourished in the shadows of the jihad.
Researchers and journalists later documented how the he**in economy exploded during this period.
"Where some saw holy war, others saw opportunity."
Chapter 3 (11:32)
The Election Engineers
The Mehran Bank Scandal · ISI Election Manipulation · 1990 · Hamid Gul · Aslam Beg · Yunus Habib.
The Cold War ended.
The interference did not.
The Mehran Bank scandal exposed allegations that intelligence-linked funds were distributed to influence Pakistan's 1990 elections.
Court cases and investigations raised serious questions about the role of powerful institutions in democratic politics.
"The battlefield had moved from mountains to ballot boxes."
Chapter 4 (13:01)
The War on Terror Money
General Pervez Musharraf · 9/11 · Coalition Support Funds · The Audit Gap · Institutionalised Theft.
After 9/11, Pakistan once again became America's frontline ally.
Billions of dollars in military and coalition support funds entered the country.
General Pervez Musharraf became Washington's key partner.
But critics, auditors, and investigators later questioned how much of that aid was properly accounted for.
"Another war. Another flood of foreign money."
Chapter 5 (14:28)
DHA City Lahore Controversy
DHA Lahore 2009 · General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani · Kamran Kayani · 16 Billion Rupees · The Families Still Waiting.
"In Pakistan, land is power."
The DHA City Lahore controversy brought attention to Kamran Kayani, brother of former Army Chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
Critics alleged that connections to power enabled massive profits through property deals, while supporters denied wrongdoing.
The controversy became a symbol of a larger question:
"Do powerful connections create opportunities unavailable to ordinary citizens?"
Chapter 6 (15:24)
General Raheel Sharif
General Raheel Sharif was celebrated for leading operations against terrorism.
Yet critics argued that the real issue was not one individual, but a system of military-linked businesses, housing schemes, and land privileges.
"When powerful institutions control both power and wealth, accountability becomes difficult."
Chapter 7 (16:01)
General Qamar Javed Bajwa
· 2016–2022 · 12.7 Billion Rupees · The Family Empire · The Farewell Speech · Impunity as Institution
"As Pakistan faced economic hardship, controversy surrounded the wealth of elite families."
In 2022, reports raised questions about the rapid business expansion and assets of relatives linked to former Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
Critics demanded transparency.
The debate became bigger than one man.
"Can the most powerful institutions in Pakistan be held accountable like everyone else?"
The reports generated enormous public debate
The truth is not anti-Pakistan. Silence is.
