The Virtual University Debating Society (VUDS) organized an online webinar on 5 August 2026 to observe Youm-e-Istehsal, in accordance with the directions of the Higher Education Commission (HEC). Titled "Seven Years of Military Siege in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir: Human Rights, International Law, and Prospects for Peace," the webinar brought together students, faculty, and staff for an insightful academic discussion.
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Shafaat Ahmed Bazaz, Dean of the School of Computer and Information Technology, Beaconhouse National University, Lahore. He shared valuable insights into the historical background of the Kashmir issue, its humanitarian implications, and the importance of international law, peaceful dialogue, and academic engagement in understanding regional challenges.
Drawing on both his academic expertise and his family's roots in Srinagar, Dr. Bazaz emphasized the importance of promoting awareness, empathy, and constructive dialogue among young people. He also highlighted the role of universities in nurturing informed citizens committed to peace, justice, and responsible civic engagement.
The webinar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, followed by closing remarks from the Convener of the Virtual University Debating Society, who thanked the keynote speaker and encouraged students to continue participating in activities that promote critical thinking, informed dialogue, and academic excellence.
