Topic: Sustainable Agricultural Development


Climate change, shortages of energy, water and land, and the demand for increased food production are just a few of the many challenges affecting agriculture today. As a result, agriculture production potential has been impacted and is expected to be seriously affected in the future. As a result, this causes increases food insecurity and hunger in many areas already deeply affected by drought and malnutrition.

Given that many areas of the developing world already deal with famine, decreased soil productivity, and desertification, sustainable agriculture is not only highly recommended, but a necessity, especially since hunger kills more people yearly than AIDS, Malaria, and Tuberculosis combined. Innovative technologies and research must be developed to ensure sustainable agriculture and productivity using modern irrigation systems, improved varieties of crops, and improved soil quality. At the same time, thep reservation of the natural environment should be based on resource conservation technologies and best management practices. Sustainable farming can only be successful when it works hand in hand with sustainable management of water and land resources, and innovative processes in livestock management.

Pakistan, like many countries, has its own problems with agricultural development. The MVSP or Mansehra Village Support Project, is part of the International fund for Pakistan Agricultural Development. MVSP specifically focuses on Sustainable Agricultural Development in the Province of Mansehra. Pakistan supports A/RES/66/195, which looks into more advanced technology in for supporting agricultural development, as well as resolutions A/RES/64/197 and A/RES/62/191.

Also, congratulations to the Palestinian delegation for winning the award for Best Performance at the Global Theatre!
