🧩 "Every behavior has a reason. Find the WHY and you will always find the solution!"

In ABA we call this the Function of Behavior. Every challenging behavior your child shows is communicating a need. Here are the 4 functions and exactly what to do next 👇

"Attention"
Your child acts out or seeks your reaction whether positive or negative because they need connection. Teach appropriate ways to ask for attention and stay calm when unwanted behaviors occur so they do not accidentally get reinforced.

"Escape or Avoidance"
Your child is trying to get out of or delay something they do not prefer. Use visual schedules and timers to create predictability and break tasks into smaller manageable steps to reduce overwhelm.

"Access to Tangibles"
Your child wants access to preferred items or activities. Offer choices whenever possible and use clear first and then expectations like first lunch then cookie to make waiting feel safe and understandable.

"Sensory or Automatic"
The behavior simply feels good and meets a sensory need independent of anyone else. Provide sensory alternatives and create safe sensory spaces throughout the day so your child can meet those needs appropriately.

💙 "Do not just react to the behavior. Understand it. Because when you understand the why everything changes!"

Save this and share it with every parent and educator who needs this today!

🚨 "Your toddler is not bad. They just do not have the words yet to tell you what they need!"

Hitting and biting in toddlers is one of the most common concerns parents face. Here are 5 simple ABA strategies that actually work 👇

"01 Stay Calm"
Step in immediately to keep everyone safe, give space and stay calm. Your regulated reaction is the first and most powerful tool you have in that moment.

"02 Limit Attention"
Keep your language brief and neutral. A simple "hands down" is enough. Big reactions and long explanations accidentally reinforce the behavior you are trying to stop.

"03 Teach What To Do Instead"
Model safe hands and prompt an alternative behavior like asking for a break or asking for help. Always replace the behavior with something your child CAN do.

"04 Reinforce Right Away"
The moment your child uses a safe behavior praise it immediately. "Great job asking for help!" teaches them that the right choice gets the best results.

"05 Look at the Why"
Every behavior has a function. Is your child hitting to escape a task, to get attention, to avoid something or to get something they want? The why always leads to the real solution.

💙 "Stop the behavior. Teach the skill. Reinforce the effort. Repeat!"

🚨 "Your child is not being stubborn. They are trying to tell you something!"

When a child avoids a task it is never without a reason. Here is what task avoidance really means and what you can do about it 👇

"01 Feels Too Hard"
The task is beyond your child's current skill level which leads to frustration and shutdown. Break it into smaller steps and always start where your child can succeed.

"02 Takes Too Long"
The task demands more sustained attention than your child can currently give. Shorten the task, add movement breaks and build attention gradually over time.

"03 Limited Communication"
Your child may not have the words or tools to ask for help or a break. Teach functional phrases like "help me" or "I need a break" to replace avoidance behavior.

"04 Low Motivation"
The task does not feel meaningful or rewarding to your child. Connect tasks to their interests and use their favorite reinforcers to make participation worth it.

"05 Sensory Overload"
The environment or the task itself feels physically uncomfortable. Address the sensory trigger first because a dysregulated child simply cannot learn or cooperate.

💙 "Before you respond to avoidance ask yourself WHY it is happening. The reason always points to the solution!"

Save this and share it with every parent and teacher who needs to understand their child better today!

🎯 "Why does my child cooperate sometimes but refuse other times?" The answer might be Behavior Momentum!

"What is Behavior Momentum?"
It is an ABA strategy where you build a string of easy successful responses before introducing a harder or less preferred task. Just like a rolling ball gains speed, your child gains motivation and momentum to follow through with more difficult requests.

Here are 6 simple tips to apply it at home 👇

"01 Start with Easy Tasks"
Begin with something your child can already do successfully like touching their nose. Early wins build motivation for what comes next.

"02 Give Clear Instructions"
Simple and direct directions reduce confusion and make it easier for your child to follow through correctly.

"03 Use Positive Reinforcement"
Celebrate immediately when your child completes a task. Immediate praise strengthens the connection between effort and reward.

"04 Chain Tasks Together"
Link easy tasks with slightly harder ones to create a flow of success that carries your child forward naturally.

"05 Pause and Praise"
After your child follows through give them a moment to feel proud. This builds confidence and intrinsic motivation.

"06 Stay Consistent"
Consistency teaches your child that following directions is doable and rewarding every single time.

💙 "Small wins build big momentum! Start easy, build success and watch cooperation grow naturally."

Save this and share it with every parent and therapist who needs it!
