Identifying the gender of German nouns (der, die, das) can be tricky, but there are some general rules and patterns that help:
🛑1. Masculine (der)
Male people & professions: der Mann (man), der Vater (father), der Lehrer (teacher)
Days, months, seasons: der Montag (Monday), der März (March), der Sommer (summer)
Most weather elements: der Regen (rain), der Wind (wind), der Schnee (snow)
📌Most nouns ending in:
-er (der Computer, der Lehrer)
-en (der Garten, der Wagen)
-ig (der König, der Honig)
-ling (der Schmetterling, der Lehrling)
🛑2. Feminine (die)
Female people & professions: die Frau (woman), die Mutter (mother), die Lehrerin (female teacher)
📌Most nouns ending in:
-e (die Blume, die Lampe)
-heit / -keit (die Freiheit, die Möglichkeit)
-ung (die Rechnung, die Zeitung)
-schaft (die Freundschaft, die Wissenschaft)
-ion (die Nation, die Diskussion)
🛑3. Neuter (das)
Diminutives (-chen, -lein): das Mädchen (girl), das Fräulein (miss)
Most nouns starting with Ge-: das Gebäude (building), das Getränk (drink)
Infinitive verbs used as nouns: das Essen (eating/food), das Schwimmen (swimming)
📌Most nouns ending in:

Exceptions Exist!
Some words don’t follow the patterns, so it’s best to memorize them over time (e.g., das Ende (end) despite ending in -e).
