Is it too late to start if my child is already 10 or 12?

No β€” and here's why that fear, while understandable, isn't based on how learning Quran actually works.

Younger children have more time, but older children bring something just as valuable: better focus, stronger reading skills already in place, and the ability to actually understand why they're learning what they're learning β€” not just repeat it.

A 10 or 12-year-old starting today isn't behind. They're starting from a different point, with different strengths, and a pace built around where they actually are β€” not where a younger child would be.

The real risk isn't starting "late." It's waiting even longer because of a fear that isn't true.
If your child is 10, 12, or older and hasn't started yet β€” that's a completely normal starting point, and one we build for often. First class is free β€” DM "START" and let's find their pace.

We don't have time for daily practice.

This is one of the most honest concerns parents raise β€” and it's a fair one. Between school, other activities, and just life, adding one more daily obligation can feel impossible.

Here's the truth: daily doesn't have to mean 30 minutes. It can mean 5.

Five minutes of focused revision, done consistently, beats an hour of practice squeezed in once a week when everyone's exhausted. The goal isn't a long session β€” it's not letting a full week pass without touching what was learned.

If even 5 minutes feels impossible some days, that's still useful information β€” it tells us the plan needs adjusting, not that your child isn't cut out for this.

At Quran Ayat, every home plan is built around your actual schedule, not an idealized one.

Tell us what your week actually looks like β€” we'll help you find 5 minutes that fit. DM us, no pressure.

My child gets distracted easily. Is this even for them?

Yes β€” and this question alone tells us you already know your child well, which matters more than you'd think.

Here's what most parents don't realize: an easily distracted child isn't a harder student to teach. They're a student who needs a different pace and structure β€” shorter focus blocks, more variety within the lesson, quicker wins to re-anchor attention.

A rigid, one-size-fits-all class will lose that child fast. A class built around how they actually focus won't.

This is exactly why we don't teach every child the same way regardless of how they're wired β€” we adjust the lesson to the child, not the other way around.

If your child struggles to sit still, that's useful information for us, not a reason to wait. First class is free β€” DM "START" and let's see what actually works for your child specifically.

Why we limit class sizes to 1-on-1, not large groups.

It would be easier to fill a class with 10 students at once. It would also mean 9 of them go unnoticed most of the time.

In a group of that size, a child who's struggling can hide for weeks β€” nodding along, never actually corrected, never actually caught up. By the time it's obvious something's wrong, months have passed.

In a 1-on-1 class, that's not possible. Every mistake gets heard. Every hesitation gets noticed. There's nowhere to quietly fall behind.

It's a slower way to grow β€” one student's schedule at a time, instead of filling a class fast. But it's the only structure where we can actually promise your child won't be the one who got missed.

Teacher Spotlight: Sheikh Omar Haddad
Qur'an & Tajweed Teacher at Quran Ayat Institute

Sheikh Omar holds an Ijazah in Qira'at (Hafs 'an 'Asim), is certified in Tajweed, and holds a Bachelor's in Islamic Studies β€” with 10+ years of teaching experience specializing in children and young learners, beginners, Tajweed and pronunciation, reading fluency, and Hifz support.

In his own words:

"I teach because I believe the Qur'an is not just a book to be read, but a source of guidance, peace and character. I want every child to feel that it is a friend they can turn to β€” for life."

This is exactly what we look for in a teacher β€” real qualifications, paired with a real sense of purpose behind why they teach.

What actually happens in your child's first trial class β€” no surprises, minute by minute.

Minutes 1-5: A calm start, not a test.
We begin with a short, friendly conversation β€” getting to know your child, not jumping straight into recitation. No pressure, no pop quiz.

Minutes 5-15: A gentle assessment.
The teacher listens to what your child already knows β€” reading level, memorization, comfort with Tajweed β€” just to understand where they're starting from. This isn't graded. It's just context.

Minutes 15-25: A real, short lesson.
Your child gets an actual taste of how classes work β€” a small, focused piece of learning, taught the way every future class will be. Not a demo. A real lesson.

Minutes 25-30: A simple next step.
The teacher shares what they noticed, what a realistic starting point looks like, and answers any questions you have β€” no pressure to commit on the spot.

That's it. No scripts, no sales pitch disguised as a class β€” just a real 30 minutes so you can see exactly how your child responds before deciding anything.

Curious to see it for yourself? First class is free β€” DM "START" and we'll get you scheduled.

This month, one of our students memorized 11 pages of Quran.

No shortcuts, no rushing β€” just consistent, focused practice, page by page, in a structure built to make sure what's learned actually stays learned.

This is exactly what we mean when we say retention over speed. 11 solid, retained pages is worth more than 20 pages that fade in a month.

Proud of the progress β€” and just getting started.

Want to see this kind of consistency for your own child? First class is free β€” DM "START".

One dua to say before starting Quran study.
Ψ±ΩŽΨ¨ΩΩ‘ Ψ²ΩΨ―Ω’Ω†ΩΩŠ عِلْمًا
Rabbi zidni ilma
"My Lord, increase me in knowledge." (Surah Ta-Ha, 20:114)

A short dua, but one asking for the right thing before opening the Quran β€” not just to read, but to actually understand what's read.
Teach it to your child before their next session. Say it yourself before you sit down to review with them.

Simple habits like this are what make studying feel intentional, not routine.

Hifz. Nazra. Tajweed. If you've heard these terms but were never quite sure what separates them β€” you're not alone. Most parents nod along without asking, because it feels like something they're supposed to already know.

Here's the simple version:

Nazra β€” reading Quran while looking at the text. This is usually where every child starts: learning to read Arabic script accurately, page by page.

Tajweed β€” the rules of correct pronunciation. Not reading faster or slower β€” reading correctly, so the meaning and sound stay exactly as revealed. This can be learned alongside Nazra from day one.

Hifz β€” memorizing the Quran, without looking at the text. This usually comes after a child is comfortable reading and reciting accurately β€” memorizing before that stage often means memorizing mistakes along with the words.

A simple way to remember it: Nazra is reading it right. Tajweed is saying it right. Hifz is knowing it by heart β€” properly, once the first two are solid.

Skipping straight to Hifz without strong Nazra and Tajweed is one of the most common (and avoidable) mistakes in how Quran is taught to kids.

Curious which stage is right for your child? DM us β€” happy to guide you, no pressure.
