Introduction

Lok Sangat is a non-profit, apolitical, non-governmental development organization dedicated to bring lasting improvements in the quality of life of marginalized and poorest communities in Pakistan. Lok Sangat was founded as an independent NGO in August 2009 and is registered in 2012, under the Societies Act 1860. The organization is headed by a governing body of development professio

nals having vast experience, in depth knowledge and understanding about social and sustainable development. The members of governing body provide direction and strategic inputs to the management of Lok Sangat since its inception. Lok Sangat is one of the national organizations working for the development and empowerment of slum communities in Islamabad presently. It has two pronged approach for organizing urban slum dwellers to come together, articulate their concerns and collectively produce solutions to their problems. Niche of recent Slum project undertaken by Lok Sangat is to take communities on board for greater effectiveness of development work undertaken for its common good that we believe cannot be achieved in its true essence without full participation and proper organization of the communities.
