PSX’s Roller-Coaster Week: What New Investors Can Learn?
The Pakistan Stock Exchange experienced a volatile week from 17–21 August 2026. The benchmark KSE-100 Index began positively at 180,502.44 points but fell sharply during the next three sessions before recovering modestly on Friday. It finished the week at 177,166.52 points—down 2,938.09 points, or approximately 1.63%, from the previous week’s close.
Political uncertainty, elevated international oil prices, geopolitical tensions and selling in heavyweight shares affected investor confidence. Meanwhile, refinery-policy expectations and selective buying in energy companies provided occasional support.
For new investors, the week offered an important lesson: short-term market movements are often driven by news and sentiment, while successful long-term investing requires research, diversification and discipline.
