IIUI Secures Two Highly Competitive HEC NRPU 2026 Research Grants
The International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI) has secured two highly competitive research grants under HEC’s National Research Programme for Universities (NRPU) 2026, reaffirming its growing excellence in research and innovation. Out of nearly 7,000 submissions, only 149 high-impact projects worth PKR 1.2 billion were approved, reflecting a highly selective success rate of around 2.2 percent.
IIUI’s successful projects are led by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Shuja Syed, Vice President (R&E) and Dr. Nazia Iqbal, Chairperson Department of Psychology, focusing on advanced semiconductor-based photodetectors for security applications and integration of psychosocial skills in the national curriculum, respectively. President IIUI, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, congratulated the researchers, terming the achievement a proud milestone aligned with national development priorities.

IIUI Expands International Collaboration Through MoU with Kazakh University
The International Islamic University Islamabad signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Akhmet Yassawi University, Kazakhstan, to establish the Yassawi Research Center for Islamic Thought, Culture, and Civilization in Central Asia at the Islamic Research Institute. The agreement was concluded during high-level academic engagements aimed at enhancing cooperation in research, innovation, and academic exchange.
The center has also been formally inaugurated and will promote joint research and scholarly collaboration between the two institutions. The initiative reflects IIUI’s growing international academic engagement under the vision of Prof. Dr. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, President International Islamic University Islamabad, who is currently abroad on official university engagements.
