We are proud to announce that Dr. Komal Atta, Director of Medical Education at UMDC, has been inducted into Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.
What makes this achievement truly unique is that Sigma Xi traditionally honors scientists in fields like medicine, engineering, and the basic sciences. It is rare for a medical educationist—especially from South Asia—to be recognized at this level.
Dr. Komal’s induction reflects her rigorous research, pioneering leadership in EPAs and curriculum reform, and her commitment to advancing contextualized, equity-driven medical education that impacts both Pakistan and the global community.
UMDC celebrates this honor and congratulates Dr. Komal on representing Pakistan’s medical education fraternity on an international stage.

A historic achievement for Pakistan in medical education! ✨
Dr Komal Atta, SCM Class of 2010, has been awarded the Ronald Harden Innovation in Medical Education (RHIME) Award 2025, the first time it has been conferred upon Pakistan. The award comes home to UMDC, The University of Faisalabad, where Dr Atta is currently working.
The moment was made even more special as it was presented by Prof. Ronald Harden himself. A proud highlight was having VC SCM Prof. Iqbal, Prof. Fahad Azam, and Prof. Abida there to share the achievement, with Prof. Iqbal proudly announcing to the audience, “She is our alumnus!” 🇵🇰
A monumental milestone for our institutions and the country!
