Closing Address Marks Conclusion of General Education Reflection and Leadership Course

As part of the General Education Reflection and Leadership Course, Principal Jinnah School of Public Policy & Leadership (JSPPL), Dr. Hassan Jalil, delivered the closing address to students of the NUST Balochistan Campus on 21 August 2026 at the JSPPL Seminar Hall.

The session marked the conclusion of a three-week learning and reflection journey, during which students engaged in a series of sessions focused on reflection, leadership, resilience, critical thinking, civic responsibility, and personal development.

Students and faculty members who participated in and contributed to the course attended the closing session. In his address, Dr. Hassan Jalil reflected on the importance of the students’ learning journey and encouraged them to carry forward the lessons of the course with a renewed sense of responsibility, leadership, and commitment to their communities and institution.

The closing session provided an opportunity for students to reflect on their experiences, acknowledge their growth, and look ahead with a stronger understanding of their role as responsible members of the NUST community and society at large.

The three-week course was designed as a meaningful platform for reflection, learning, and positive personal transformation, bringing together students and faculty in a shared journey of leadership and growth.

NUST–RIAC Roundtable Explores Russia–Pakistan Cybersecurity Partnership
Islamabad, 18 August 2026: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), in collaboration with the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), organised an online roundtable titled “Russia–Pakistan Cybersecurity Partnership: Challenges and Opportunities” on 18 August 2026. The discussion focused on the theme “Cybersecurity and National Sovereignty: Shared Challenges for Russia and Pakistan.”
The session brought together experts and academics from Pakistan and Russia to examine the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape and its implications for national sovereignty, digital governance, artificial intelligence, critical infrastructure and international cooperation.
The session was moderated by Dr. Gul-i-Ayesha Bhatti, JSPPL, NUST, The session commenced with opening remarks by Dr. Saqib Anjum, Associate Dean, Jinnah School of Public Policy and Leadership (JSPPL), NUST, who emphasised the importance of academic and policy dialogue on emerging global challenges. Dmitriy Kiku, Deputy Director General, RIAC, followed with opening remarks, appreciating the initiative and highlighting the timeliness of addressing cybersecurity cooperation between Russia and Pakistan.
The first substantive presentation was delivered by Dr. Adeela Ghazanfar, JSPPL, NUST, who examined security beyond the traditional battlefield. She discussed societal resistance, public perceptions and the changing character of contemporary conflict, while also highlighting the importance of secure and responsible approaches to artificial intelligence.
Dr. Hasan Tahir, SEECS, NUST, addressed the regulatory and governance dimensions of cybersecurity, focusing on Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC), GDPR, regulation, policy and compliance. He highlighted the need for effective frameworks to govern cyberspace while maintaining an appropriate balance between digital security and openness.

A workshop was arranged for faculty of JSPPL to strengthen competencies in data entry and management, statistical analysis techniques, and the interpretation of data outputs. The session was conducted by Prof. Dr. Saman Attiq, NUST Business School and arranged by HoD Research JSPPL, Dr Hamza.

An interactive session on ‘Finding Our Feet’ was conducted for undergraduate students from NBC, providing participants with an opportunity to reflect on their career readiness by reviewing strengths, aspirations, personality, emotions, and their level of preparedness for future career decisions. The session emphasized that career is a lifelong journey which involves informed decision-making related to education, work, and various life roles. It was emphasized that career planning plays an important role in educational phase to become career ready.

Furthermore, the session also addressed the experience of feeling overwhelmed while facing transitions, challenges and making career decisions. Through a Microsoft Reflect video, students were provided with a resource to recognize and name their emotions and consider practical ways of managing them. Students reflected on how slowing down and talking about emotions with trusted individuals such as family, peers, teachers, or counsellors can support emotional well-being and constructive action.

The session concluded with an emphasis on developing optimism and resilience as an important personal resource for navigating career and life transitions. Overall, through reflection, interactive exercises, online videos, and group participation, the session provided students with a meaningful opportunity to ‘find their feet’ in this career journey and move forward with greater self-awareness, adaptability, confidence, and career readiness.
