The Industrial Liaison Office (ILO) at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DECE), in collaboration with the Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC), International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), organized a guest lecture and awareness session on the 4th Ali Suleman Habib Engineering Excellence Award on 11th November 2025 at 12:30 PM in Auditorium Block-II, H-10 Campus, IIUI.
The session featured Engineer Nabeel Haider, Deputy Manager, House of Habib Group, as the guest speaker. He delivered an informative and interactive lecture highlighting the objectives, structure, and significance of the Ali Suleman Habib Engineering Excellence Award in recognizing innovation, creativity, and technical excellence among Pakistanโ€™s young engineers. The talk focused on the eligibility criteria, application process, and benefits of participation, including mentorship by industry experts, national-level recognition, and exposure to professional engineering environments.
The lecture also reflected on the legacy of Ali Suleman Habib, a visionary industrial leader who played a pivotal role in advancing Pakistanโ€™s engineering standards and promoting excellence through innovation and leadership.
The presentation included an overview of the House of Habib (HoH), a prominent industrial group contributing significantly to Pakistanโ€™s economy through its diversified ventures:
โ€ข Automotive manufacturing via Indus Motor Company (Toyota Pakistan)
โ€ข Energy development through ThalNova Power Thar (330 MW project)
โ€ข Packaging and jute production under Thal Limited and Pakistan Papersack
โ€ข Retail and property ventures managed by Habib-Metro Pakistan
These projects demonstrate the groupโ€™s sustained focus on industrial growth, technological advancement, and sustainable innovation.
The session was attended by students from Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, and Computer Engineering, as well as their Engineering Technology programs, including Cyber Security Technology and Artificial Intelligence Technology. Participants were encouraged to contribute innovative research ideas, prototypes, and design projects in these domains to compete in the upcoming Ali Suleman Habib Engineering Excellence Award, which aims to spotlight transformative solutions developed by young engineers.
It is noteworthy that a project from IIUI had previously been selected and secured 3rd position in the 3rd Ali Suleman Habib Engineering Excellence Awards, held last year. This achievement was appreciated during the session as a reflection of the universityโ€™s growing focus on practical innovation and industry collaboration.
The winner of the award receives PKR 1 million, national recognition, and opportunities for industry mentorship and collaboration through the House of Habib network.
The event was effectively coordinated by Dr. Shahid Ikram, Assistant Professor, DECE, and Focal Person, Industrial Liaison Committee (FET, IIUI), who ensured full compliance with IIUIโ€™s SOPs and smooth coordination between ILO, ORIC, and the House of Habib representatives.
The attendance sheets of participants, and pictorial evidence of the event are attached with this report for official submission to ORIC.
Overall, the session successfully strengthened academia-industry linkages, motivated students to pursue research-driven innovation, and highlighted national-level opportunities that recognize outstanding engineering contributions across various disciplines at IIUI.
