یونیورسٹی آف ٹیکنالوجی سڈنی اور وولکاک انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف میڈیکل ریسرچ کی ایک تازہ تحقیق کے مطابق وٹامن سی فضائی آلودگی کے منفی اثرات سے بچاؤ میں مددگار ثابت ہو سکتی ہے۔ PM 2.5 جیسے چھوٹے ذرات ٹریفک، دھول، جنگل کی آگ اور دیگر ماحولیاتی عوامل سے پیدا ہوتے ہیں۔

تحقیق میں بتایا گیا کہ وٹامن سی کے اینٹی آکسیڈنٹ اثرات ان ذرات کے خلیوں پر نقصان دہ اثرات کو کم کرتے ہیں، آکسیڈیٹو تناؤ اور سوزش کو روکتے ہیں اور پھیپھڑوں کی توانائی پیدا کرنے والی خلیاتی ساخت (مائٹوکونڈریا) کو محفوظ رکھتے ہیں۔ تحقیق میں مشورہ دیا گیا ہے کہ وٹامن سی سپلیمنٹس کا استعمال معالج کے مشورے سے ہی کریں۔

ایک نئی تحقیق میں یہ انکشاف ہوا ہے کہ انسانوں میں پایا جانے والا Epstein-Barr وائرس خود مدافعتی بیماری لوپس (SLE) پیدا کر سکتا ہے۔ سانفورڈ یونیورسٹی کے محققین نے تحقیق میں دیکھا کہ لوپس کے مریضوں میں ایسے خون کے خلیات زیادہ پائے جاتے ہیں جن میں یہ وائرس موجود ہوتا ہے اور یہ تعداد عام لوگوں کے مقابلے میں تقریباً 25 گنا زیادہ ہے۔

ماہرین کے مطابق یہ وائرس خلیات کو متاثر کر کے مدافعتی نظام کو جسم کے اپنے حصوں پر حملہ کرنے پر مجبور کرتا ہے، جس سے بیماری پیدا ہوتی ہے۔ محققین کا کہنا ہے کہ یہی وائرس دیگر خود مدافعتی بیماریوں جیسے ملٹیپل سکلیرسس اور جوڑوں کے درد (آرتھرائٹس) میں بھی کردار ادا کر سکتا ہے۔
