The Civil Engineering Department - CUST Islamabad in collaboration with ORIC - CUST successfully organized a one day hands-on workshop "Fibre Reinforced Composites for Civil Engineering Applications" on Wednesday, September 16, 2026 having PEC 1 CPD Point. The resource person was Engr. Prof. Dr. Majid Ali. Both academia and industry professionals attended the workshop. The audience took keen interest in learning the manufacturing and testing of FRC via live experience.

The Civil Engineering Department - CUST Islamabad showcases innovative student research on "A Comparative Study of BIM-Based & Conventional Approaches for Non-Linear Analysis of RC Buildings."

The research was carried out by M. Umair Babar, Abdul Moiz Hassan and Raiem Hassan, under the academic supervision of Engr. M. Waqas Malik, Senior Lecturer CUST, with industry guidance from Engr. Naeem Babar, Manager Civil Tech Works (TERRA).

The study presents a detailed comparison between BIM-based (Robot Structural Analysis) and conventional (ETABS) approaches for non-linear analysis of RC buildings, highlighting significant gains in cost efficiency and reduced embodied carbon.

The research was carried out by Momina Eman, Mishkwat Hameed, and Hiba tul Fatima, under the academic supervision of Engr. Sohail Afzal, with industry guidance from Engr. Mehak Sajjad, Engineering Design Consultants Ltd.

This research highlights the students’ efforts to apply advanced engineering BIM tools and seismic analysis techniques to address real-world challenges in structural safety and resilient infrastructure.
