*Admission Eligibility Criteria Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad*

A minimum score of 50 marks in the USAT (Undergraduate Studies Admission Test)
is mandatory for admission to BS programs at Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU), Islamabad. Students who fail to achieve this minimum requirement are not eligible for admission and will be required to reapply for the USAT test in the next available session.
Candidates scoring below 50 marks will be considered ineligible and their applications will not be processed for enrollment in any BS program at QAU.

Subject Test/Interview (MPhil/MS Programme)

The admission to MPhil/MS programme shall be made on the basis of cumulative merit to be determined from previous academic record, University written subject test and interview.
No separate call letters for test/interview will be issued.
Only the test pass applicants will appear before the interview as per schedule of the Department/ Institute/ School/ Centre (DISC) concerned.
The lists of the pass applicants shall be displayed on the notice boards of the relevant Department/ Institute/ School/ Centre (DISC).
Test sample papers are available on the QAU website (MPhil / MS).
Applicants appearing in the Entry Test must bring original CNIC for identification.
If a test date is declared as holiday or for any reason, the test will be conducted on the next working day.

HEC has deferred the implementation of ETC-conducted GRE/HAT-General (Level 7) and GRE/HAT-Subject (Level 8) admissions tests from Fall 2026 to Fall 2027, following requests from universities/DAIs for additional implementation time.

Fall 2026 admissions will continue under the existing admission criteria.

GRE/HAT through ETC Now Mandatory from Fall 2027, Not 2026

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to defer the implementation of the requirement for conducting GRE/HAT-General and GRE/HAT-Subject tests through the Education Testing Council (ETC) for admissions to Level 7 and Level 8 programmes.

Following requests received from several universities and Degree Awarding Institutions (DAIs), the decision will now be effective from Fall 2027 admissions instead of Fall 2026, providing institutions with additional time to ensure a smooth and effective transition in implementation.

HEC notified that universities will conduct their own admission tests for Fall 2026 MS and PhD admissions instead of the ETC-HAT.

*MS/Mphill candidates*

As per the guidelines issued by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan, all candidates seeking admission to MPhil/MS programs are required to qualify the relevant HEC-approved admission test, including HAT/GRE (General) or GAT/GRE, as applicable.

Regarding the conduct of any additional university admission test, the matter is currently under consideration. A final decision will be made after the Eid holidays in accordance with HEC policies and university regulations.
