Their passionate defence of the QAU on social media and at the Islamabad High Court has yielded result, i.e., the impudence with which the Capital Development Authority (CDA) wanted to bulldoze the project of grabbing QAU land and dissecting the varsity has been, for now, stayed by the IHC.
The CDA, for instance, cannot target lands of NUST, NDU, Air and Bahria Universities for a simple reason: in the system we have evolved, those varsities are protected by organisations more powerful than the CDA. It also cannot target the encroachers and property dealers eager for this project to go through as they are too integrated into local politics and administration. This is not a reflection on those varsities or even the encroachers but the system. QAU, given the low ambitions of the varsity's Vice Chancellor, became an easy target for the CDA.
The other point is about CDA's insolent behaviour. Over decades bureaucracies have gotten used to getting their way. Laws are like putty in their hands. This is not a tenable system and we are witnessing the many cracks that must of necessity develop in such an enterprise.
