Dr. Nasir Mehmood, Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) and Co-Chair of the Technical Committee visited National Curriculum Council and had an interactive session with the curriculum development committees working on the New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) from ECCE to Grade V.

The session focused on different levels of the taxonomy of educational objectives, with particular emphasis on moving beyond knowledge and recall towards understanding, application, analysis, creativity and higher-order thinking.

The discussion will contribute to developing clearer, measurable and age-appropriate learning outcomes, while strengthening alignment between curriculum content, pedagogy and assessment. Such academic engagement is an important step towards ensuring that the NNCP nurtures curiosity, critical thinking, problem-solving and meaningful learning from the foundational years.

The National Curriculum Council Wing (NCCW), Ministry of Federal Education & Professional Training, in collaboration with NIBAF-P and the State Bank of Pakistan, has successfully completed the national reconciliation of Financial Literacy Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)—marking an important milestone in integrating financial literacy into Pakistan’s national curriculum.

Addressing the concluding session, Mr. Nadeem Mahbub, Federal Secretary, MoFE&PT, emphasized financial literacy as an essential life skill and appreciated the approach of embedding it within existing subjects rather than adding another standalone subject, thereby keeping the curriculum relevant without increasing learners’ burden.

Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director NCCW, highlighted the timely convergence of this initiative with the ongoing national curriculum reform, providing an opportunity to progressively integrate financial literacy across grades and subjects and translate curriculum into practical competencies for life and future economic participation.

Mr. Mahboob Mahmood, CEO Knowledge Platform, highlighted the collective efforts behind the initiative, while Ms. Lubna Farooq Malik, CEO NIBAF, acknowledged the valuable contributions of provincial and regional representatives, curriculum experts and partner institutions.

This collaboration is more than the completion of an exercise—it is a milestone in connecting curriculum, financial capability and the future readiness of our young people. The reconciled SLOs will now provide the basis for integration into curricula, textbooks, teaching-learning resources, classroom practices and assessment.

The National Curriculum Council (NCC) successfully concluded the second round of its three-day technical workshop for the development of the New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP), focusing on Progression Matrices, Standards and Benchmarks.

Subject experts and curriculum specialists worked collaboratively to map clear learning progression across grades and develop coherent, age-appropriate standards and benchmarks. The workshop concluded with subject-wise presentations, peer review and refinement of the developed work.

This marked another important milestone towards a coherent, progressive and future-ready curriculum for Pakistan.

Visit of 54th Common Training Programme Probationary Officers to NCC

The National Curriculum Council (NCC) Wing welcomed the probationary officers of the 54th Common Training Programme (CTP) from the Civil Services Academy, Lahore, accompanied by Ms. Samia Mustansar, Additional Director (F), during their visit to NCC this morning.
The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director NCC, who welcomed the young civil servants and highlighted the importance of understanding the diverse functions and responsibilities of the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training and its allied organizations.
The briefing session was chaired by Mr. Hassan Saqlain, Additional Secretary, and featured a comprehensive overview of the Ministry’s key departments, policy priorities, ongoing initiatives, and institutional mechanisms.
Senior representatives and heads from the Ministry’s attached departments and organizations, including DG FDE Mr. Javed Iqbal Mirza, HEC,IBCC and NAVTTC, briefed the probationary officers on their respective mandates, functions and major initiatives.
The session was highly interactive, with the probationary officers raising questions on various aspects of the education sector, which were responded to by the respective heads and representatives.
The visit provided the probationary officers with valuable exposure to the governance, policy formulation and institutional landscape of Pakistan’s education sector, while also providing an opportunity for meaningful interaction between the future civil service leadership and senior education policymakers and practitioners.

Development of New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) Formally Commences for ECCE to Grade V
Islamabad, 11 August 2026: The first meeting for the development of the New National Curriculum of Pakistan (NNCP) from ECCE to Grade V was held today, formally marking the commencement of the curriculum development process. The constituted subject committees began their work on the first day, initiating a structured process aimed at developing a contemporary, competency-based and future-ready national curriculum.
Dr. Tabassum Naz, Director, National Curriculum Council (NCC), welcomed the participants and highlighted the significance of the initiative as an important milestone in Pakistan’s ongoing curriculum reform process. She emphasized that the development of the NNCP is being undertaken through an inclusive, consultative and evidence-informed approach, bringing together curriculum experts, academicians, practitioners and other stakeholders.
Mr. Aftab Rasheed, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Addressing the participants, he stressed the need for commitment, integrity and collective ownership in undertaking this important national responsibility. He emphasized that curriculum development is not merely a technical exercise but a national cause that directly shapes the knowledge, skills, values and competencies of future generations.
The Vice Chancellor, Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU), urged the participants to “think global and act local,” emphasizing the importance of learning from international best practices while ensuring that the curriculum remains firmly grounded in Pakistan’s national priorities, cultural context and the diverse learning needs of its children.

The committees were subsequently apprised of the rationale, conceptual foundations and roadmap for the development of the NNCP. It was highlighted that the initiative is an outcome of an extensive process of stakeholder engagement and consultation, including consultations with provinces and areas, and is anchored in the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) 2026 and the new Scheme of Studies.
Participants were also oriented on the proposed curriculum development approach, guiding principles, standards and competencies, vertical progression and horizontal alignment, age-appropriate learning outcomes, cross-cutting themes, and the overall roadmap for completing the curriculum development process.
The commencement of the committee work represents a significant step towards translating the National Curriculum Framework 2026 into a coherent and implementable New National Curriculum of Pakistan, with the ultimate objective of improving the quality and relevance of learning for every child.
