It's that time of year, Saturday night, March 28th, 8:30 p.m. your local time, is ! Earth Hour
Earth Hour is a global grassroots movement organized by one of my favorite charities, World Wildlife Fund WWF and unites millions of people, businesses, and leaders to support nature, by unplugging all devices and turning off all lights including your porch light, for one hour.
Started in 2007 in Sydney, it has grown to over 190 countries and territories, often exceeding 9–10 billion social media impressions and featuring thousands of landmarks turning off lights. Over 190 countries and territories take part annually, making it one of the world's largest environmental movements.Iconic structures such as the Eiffel Tower, Burj Khalifa, Colosseum, and Empire State Building participate in the switch-off. Local impacts are measured, such as a 161.98 MW grid reduction in the Philippines in 2025. In 2025, participation grew to include nearly 3 million "hours given for the planet" in the Earth Hour "Hour Bank".
The initiative has expanded beyond just turning off lights, prompting global conversations on nature loss and climate change.
