8 June: Baloch Missing Persons Day

On the occasion of 8 June, Baloch Missing Persons Day, BSC Wafaq and Punjab announce a comprehensive awareness campaign to expose the ongoing policy of enforced disappearances and other grave human rights violations being carried out against the Baloch nation.

Enforced disappearance is not merely the disappearance of an individual but a systematic attempt to silence political dissent, suppress national consciousness and instill fear within Baloch society. For decades, thousands of Baloch men, women, students, intellectuals, and political activists have been forcibly disappeared, while their families continue to endure uncertainty, suffering and the denial of justice.

The targeting of Baloch students and youth has become an alarming feature of this policy. Educational institutions, which should be spaces of learning and intellectual growth, have increasingly become sites where Baloch students face surveillance, harassment, and enforced disappearances. Such actions reflect a broader effort to curtail the political and social participation of the Baloch people.

Through this campaign, BSC Wafaq and Punjab seek to shed light on the plight of Baloch missing persons, amplify the voices of their families and challenge the normalization of enforced disappearances. We call upon students, political activists, journalists, human rights organizations and civil society to stand with the families of the disappeared and raise their voices against this continuing injustice.

8 June is not merely a day of remembrance but a day of resistance against silence, impunity and oppression. Until every disappeared person is accounted for and justice is delivered, the struggle for truth and accountability will continue.

The University of Gujrat's Boys Hostel Administration has harassed the Baloch Students physically and mentally. The administration with inappropriate words dialogued with them. In response, the Baloch students decided to organise a protest in front of the Hostel gate. Even though the students have exams, they participated in the sitting in midst of long summer night with mosquitos. During the protest, the students studied and others spent the night disturbed while the administration yet has not given any respond.

بلوچ طالب علم مہراب خالد کی جبری گمشدگی کی شدید الفاظ میں مذمت کرتے ہیں۔

بلوچ اسٹوڈنٹس کونسل پنجاب بلوچ طالب علم مہراب خالد کی تاحال عدم بازیابی پر شدید تشویش اور مذمت کا اظہار کرتی ہے۔

مہراب خالد کا تعلق بلوچستان کے شہر تُربَت سے ہے اور وہ اپنے خوابوں کی تعبیر اور فلم سازی (Filmmaking) کی تعلیم حاصل کرنے کے لیے لاہور میں زیرِ تعلیم تھے۔ 29 مئی کی رات وہ اپنے چند کلاس فیلوز کے ہمراہ ایک پروجیکٹ پر کام کرنے کی غرض سے اپنے ایک دوست کے گھر موجود تھے، جہاں سے انہیں دیگر ساتھیوں کے ساتھ حراست میں لیا گیا۔ بعد ازاں ان کے بیشتر ساتھیوں کو رہا کر دیا گیا۔ لیکن مہراب خالد تاحال رہا نہ ہوسکا۔

یہ انتہائی افسوسناک اور تکلیف دہ امر ہے کہ ایک بلوچ طالب علم، جو علم حاصل کرنے اور اپنے مستقبل کو سنوارنے کے لیے سینکڑوں میل دور اپنے گھر اور خاندان سے دور رہ رہا تھا، آج خود اپنے خاندان سے دور کر دیا گیا ہے۔ مہراب خالد کے اہلِ خانہ مسلسل بے چینی، اضطراب اور کرب کی کیفیت میں مبتلا ہیں اور اپنے پیارے کی واپسی کے منتظر ہیں۔

بلوچ طلبہ پہلے ہی تعلیمی میدان میں بے شمار مشکلات کا سامنا کر رہے ہیں۔ ایسے حالات میں کسی طالب علم کا اس طرح غائب ہو جانا نہ صرف اس کے خاندان بلکہ پورے بلوچ طالب علمی حلقے میں خوف اور تشویش کو جنم دیتا ہے۔ ایک نوجوان جو کیمرے اور قلم کے ذریعے اپنے خوابوں کی تعبیر ڈھونڈ رہا تھا، آج خود غیر یقینی صورتحال کا شکار ہے۔

بلوچ اسٹوڈنٹس کونسل پنجاب سمجھتی ہے کہ مہراب خالد کے اہلِ خانہ کو ان کے بارے میں معلومات فراہم کرنا اور انہیں اپنے خاندان کے پاس واپس لانا متعلقہ اداروں کی ذمہ داری ہے۔ کسی بھی خاندان کو اس اذیت سے دوچار رکھنا کہ وہ اپنے بچے کی خیریت تک سے لاعلم ہو، ایک نہایت تکلیف دہ صورتحال ہے۔

بلوچ اسٹوڈنٹس کونسل پنجاب انسانی حقوق کی تنظیموں، طلبہ تنظیموں، وکلاء، صحافیوں اور تمام انصاف پسند حلقوں سے اپیل کرتی ہے کہ وہ مہراب خالد کی بازیابی کے لیے آواز بلند کریں اور ان کے اہلِ خانہ کے ساتھ اظہارِ یکجہتی کریں۔

Mehrab Khalid, a student of “Filming” at the National College of Arts (NCA),Lahore, was reportedly taken on the night of 29 May at around 12:30 a.m. Along with him, eight of his classmates were also detained and later released. However, Mehrab’s whereabouts remain unknown.

His disappearance has raised serious concerns among Baloch students studying across the country. The continued lack of information about his fate is deeply troubling and raises questions about due process and fundamental rights.

We demand the immediate disclosure of Mehrab Khalid’s whereabouts and his safe release.

Pakistan’s celebrations of 28 may attempt to glorify a day that for the Baloch nation symbolises displacement, environmental destruction and genocide

As the campaign of 28 May reaches its conclusion, we once again remind the world that this date is not a celebration for the Baloch nation, but a painful reminder of occupation, militarisation, and the continued suffering of the Baloch Nation. The nuclear tests conducted on Baloch land were imposed without the consent of the indigenous population, turning our homeland into a testing ground while the voices, rights and existence of the Baloch people were ignored.

Under the banners announced by Wafaq and Punjab, state celebrations attempt to glorify a day that for the Baloch nation symbolises displacement, environmental destruction, enforced militarisation, and the systematic erasure of our identity. Entire Baloch nation have suffered the consequences of policies imposed in the name of national interests, while the people of the land continue to face marginalisation on their own soil.

28 May stands as a reminder of how Balochistan has been treated as a colony rather than a homeland of its people. The ongoing displacement of Baloch nation, exploitation of resources, demographic engineering and silencing of dissent reflect a broader pattern of oppression that many Baloch identify as a slow-moving genocide.

We extend our gratitude to all students, activists, journalists, human rights defenders who raised their voices during this campaign. The struggle for truth, justice, dignity, and national survival will continue beyond this day. No amount of propaganda can erase the pain carried by generations of Baloch people, nor can it silence a nation determined to resist oppression and preserve its identity.
