Choose from a variety of programs under the Faculties of Life Sciences, Social Sciences, and Arts & Humanities, including Psychology, Media & Communication, Sociology, BBA, Biology, Chemistry, and more.

Karakoram International University (KIU) and WAPDA Administrative Staff College (WASC) are collaborating to offer specialized courses for the capacity building of engineers and professionals. This partnership was formalized during a visit by Engr. Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, Vice Chancellor of KIU, who was the Chief Guest at the graduation ceremony of Middle and Junior Management courses for WAPDA professionals in Islamabad.

During the event, Dr. Anwar ur Haq, GM & Principal of WASC, appreciated KIU's efforts in promoting education and research in Gilgit-Baltistan, especially in Engineering and Technology at its new campus. The Vice Chancellor highlighted the critical role of professionals as change leaders in nation-building and emphasized the importance of continuous professional development and ethical practices.

Mr. Faqir Shah, the 4th Ph.D scholar of the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Karakoram International University (KIU), has successfully defended his Ph.D thesis on January 8, 2025. His research, titled “Modeling and Analysis of Nonlinear Fluid Flows Over Stretched Surfaces,” was supervised by Associate Professor Dr. Asad Ullah (KIU) and co-supervised by Professor Dr. Tasawar Hayat (QAU Islamabad).

The external examiner, Prof. Dr. Meraj Mustafa (NUST Islamabad), along with the examination committee, highly appreciated the scholar's groundbreaking work, which has been published in prestigious international journals. The Vice Chancellor of KIU, Engr. Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, commended the scholar, his supervisors, and the department for their collective efforts in producing exceptional research in Mathematics.

This milestone highlights KIU's commitment to fostering academic excellence and advancing mathematical sciences in the region.

Karakoram International University (KIU) and the Global Climate Change Impact Studies Centre (GCISC) have joined hands to promote climate research, capacity building, and policy-making for the region. In a pivotal meeting, VC KIU and the Executive Director of GCISC agreed to collaborate on joint research projects, policy dialogues, and faculty-student development initiatives.

KIU's extensive climate-related endeavors, including its work with global organizations like UNDP, WWF, and ICIMOD, were highlighted by VC KIU, who also shared KIU's active role in the GLOF2 project since 2018. The Executive Director of GCISC commended KIU’s efforts and presented a comprehensive overview of GCISC's global contributions to climate research and advocacy.

This collaboration signifies a significant step towards addressing regional and global climate challenges through education, research, and policy innovation. An MoU will formalize this partnership, marking the beginning of a transformative journey in climate action.

The Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU) participated in the Scholarship Committee meeting for undergraduate scholarship programs for top universities in Pakistan. Joining online were Executive Director Prof. Dr. Zia-ul-Haq, Registrar of University of Baltistan Waseemullah Jan, and Secretary Higher Education GB Mr. Fareed Ahmad. Mr. Raza Chohan, Adviser HEC on HR, and Mr. Javed Hassan, Project Director, also contributed to the session.

The committee finalized awards for 78 top-performing students on a merit-based system, with a weightage of 50% for entry test scores, 40% for intermediate results, and 10% for SSC results. Across four batches, approximately 360 scholarships have been allocated to talented students from Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Vice Chancellor praised the Federal Government's initiative to empower the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan through these scholarships and expressed hope that the selected students would excel in their academic journeys, ensuring the continuation of such impactful programs.

We are excited to announce that Karakoram International University, Gilgit has received formal approval from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to offer the Master of Science (MS) in Sociology program starting Fall 2024!

This advanced program, recognized as a Level 7 qualification, will be led by our esteemed faculty:

The Karakoram International University Provost Office, in collaboration with KADO, organized a documentary screening at the KIU Kamyab Jawan Center. The event aimed to highlight the importance of overcoming barriers and achieving milestones through the stories of women from remote areas.

The documentary showcased how these women faced challenges and transformed their lives with hard work, determination, and resilience. Dr. Akbar Ali, Chairman of the Media and Communication Studies Department at KIU, shared his thoughts on the importance of real stories and their power to inspire change. The event also included senior administrative and teaching staff from the Media Department, as well as a large number of students.

The film focused on women who achieved success despite limited resources and societal pressures, offering a positive message about women’s rights and progress. Students gained valuable insights into the documentary-making process, enhancing their academic and creative skills.

The screening fostered discussions about the challenges women face and how they overcome obstacles to reach their goals, encouraging a passion for societal change among students.

The documentary also highlighted how women challenged traditional barriers, opening paths to progress for themselves, their families, and their communities. The event aimed to inspire women to fully utilize their potential and advocate for their rights, promoting equal opportunities and social progress.

This screening not only celebrated the achievements of these women but also set the foundation for a new perspective on women’s rights and development in the region.

Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, Vice-Chancellor of Karakoram International University, represented KIU in a high-level meeting of education experts in Islamabad, aimed at addressing challenges in KP’s education sector. The gathering, organized by the Pakistan Development Foundation, launched plans for a ‘Provincial Educational Jirga’ to engage stakeholders and formulate actionable solutions. A ten-year strategic plan for educational reform was also approved, showcasing KIU's dedication to driving impactful change in the region.

Islamabad: A one-day workshop on "Developing Inclusive and Resilient Youth Communities for Preventing Extremist Violence" was held at the Islamic Research Institute (IRI) of the International Islamic University (IIU). The event aimed to promote tolerance, mutual respect, and peaceful approaches among the country's youth.
Adviser to the Prime Minister on Youth Affairs, Rana Khushnood Khan, was the chief guest, while Director General IRI, Prof. Dr. Ziaul Haq, welcomed delegates from academia, politics, research institutions, and social work.
In his introductory remarks, Prof. Zia highlighted the achievements of the youth engagement program under Paigham Pakistan, which brought together intellectuals from universities, religious schools, and diverse schools of thought. The new initiative, Preventing Extremism Violence (PEV), includes all provinces, including AJ&K and Gilgit Baltistan.Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University , Professor. Dr. Attaullah Shah, shared KIU's initiatives for youth development and empowerment. He emphasized the need for more scholarships, funding for clubs and societies, improved counseling services, and better sports facilities to mainstream the country's youth.The workshop concluded with VC KIU presenting his books to the Adviser to the PM and DG IRI. The event underscored the importance of promoting inclusive and resilient youth communities in preventing extremist violence.

KIU and Hashoo School of Tourism &Hospitality in collaboration Pakistan Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) will initiate international programs in KIU Hunza Campus. This was agreed in a meeting of the three organizations represented by Prof. Dr.Attaullah Shah VC KIU, Mr.Faisal Nadeem Dir Hashoo School and Mr Faisal Shahzad from PEEF. It was agreed that International Tourism & Hospitality diploma and degree programs will be jointly initiated which will mainly focus the employability of graduates kn the international and regional market. This high value program will attract students from all over Pakistan and abroad. The program will involve intensive trainings and internships in Pakistan and overseas best Tourism facilities, so that the graduates can acquire the best knowledge skills required for the sector. The rich cultural values of Hunza with extensive Tourism snd Hospitality opportunities, the program will develop experts in the Tourism and hospitality services. They also agreed that an International school of Ecotourism Hospitality and Moutaineering will also be established under the program. Pakistan Education Endowment Fund (PEEF) will explore various scholarships for the talented and deserving students, so that high quality and high value programs can be offered. Earlier Director Hashoo Tourism and Hospitality Schools provided an overview of various interventions in developing qualified and expert human resource in the Sector. VC KIU while appreciating the holistic work of both the organizations showed strong resolve of KIU team to work toghetr for the empowerment and capacity Building of the youth. He also advised the Director Hunza Campus Dr.Rehmat Karim to develop plan for initiating international degree and diploma programs with the support of the two partner organisations.
