ORIC Steering Committee Holds Inaugural Meeting; Approves Key Research Policies and 5‑Year Strategic Plan
The inaugural meeting of the ORIC Steering Committee was held today at the University of Chitral under the chairmanship of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah. The meeting marked a significant milestone in the University’s journey toward becoming a research‑intensive institution committed to innovation, commercialization, and socioeconomic development. The Committee convened to formally review the mandate of the Office of Research, Innovation & Commercialization (ORIC), and approve several foundational policy documents that will guide the University’s research agenda in the years to come. Dr. Shah Fahad Ali Khan, Director ORIC, served as the Convener of the meeting and presented the key policy frameworks developed by the ORIC team.
During the proceedings, the Committee deliberated upon and approved the 5‑Year Strategic Plan (2026–2031), the Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) Policy, the Research Grant Management Policy, the Technology Transfer Policy, and the Conflict of Interest Policy. The Conflict of Interest Policy was endorsed to ensure integrity and transparency in all university decisions by mandating disclosure of financial, non‑financial, research, and social conflicts, with a clear three‑tier management structure.
The meeting was attended by the distinguished members of the Committee, including Dr. Ishfaq Hameed, Dr. Mohammad Sadiq, Dr. Sufaid Khan, and Dr. Azizullah Jan, representing the teaching faculty; Mr. Tariq Jamal and Mr. Shafaat Ayub, representing industry; Mr. Muhammad Qasim, Manager Innovation & Commercialization, ORIC; and Ms. Shagufta Naz, Manager Research Management, ORIC.
In his address, Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah commended the ORIC team for developing comprehensive policy frameworks in a short span of time and emphasized that these policies would serve as the backbone for fostering a culture of research, innovation, and entrepreneurship at the University of Chitral. He stated that the approval of these policies is a historic step for the University, as they will not only protect the intellectual property of researchers but also create pathways for translating knowledge into tangible products and services that benefit society, industry, and the nation.
Dr. Shah Fahad Ali Khan, Director ORIC, extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to the Vice Chancellor for his visionary leadership and guidance, and expressed gratitude to all Committee members for their valuable inputs and active participation, with special appreciation extended to the industry representatives for their insights on strengthening academia‑industry linkages. He remarked that this is the beginning of a transformative journey and expressed confidence that with the collective wisdom of the Committee and the support of the University leadership, UOCH will emerge as a hub of innovation and research excellence in the region.

Proud Moment for the Department of Management Sciences, University of Chitral
The Department of Management Sciences is delighted to share that Ms. Arifa Ayab, a graduate of the BBA Program (Session 2020–2024) from Morder, Upper Chitral, has been selected as OG-III (Officer Grade-III) at the National Bank of Pakistan, Reshun Branch, Upper Chitral. 3rd Meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) held at University of Chitral
The 3rd meeting of the Advanced Studies and Research Board (ASRB) was held at the Conference Room University of Chitral on 9th June, 2026. The Honourable Vice Chancellor University of Chitral Chaired the meeting. The MPhil Scholars from different departments of the University presented/defended their research synopsis. During the proceedings, the Board meticulously reviewed formally approved the coursework, research supervisor and research synopsis of M.Phil. scholars from different departments of the university. Speaking on the occasion, the Vice Chancellor reiterated the university's commitment to fostering a strong research culture. He also pledged full support for promoting research culture within the university and stressed on enhancing the quality of research activities at the University of Chitral.

Directorate of QEC Conducts Training Session on Turnitin for the Affiliated Colleges
The Directorate of Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), University of Chitral, successfully conducted a training session on the use of Turnitin for the Focal Persons of QEC from affiliated colleges on June 10, 2026.
The training session was facilitated by Dr. Kifayat Ullah, Director, QEC, University of Chitral, who served as the Resource Person. During the session, participants were provided with comprehensive guidance on the effective utilization of Turnitin for plagiarism detection, academic integrity, and quality assurance in higher education institutions.
Mr. Shah Abdul Qadir, Assistant Director QEC, and Mr. Tanzil Ur Rahman, Assistant Director IT, were also present and actively facilitated the training proceedings, ensuring smooth coordination and technical support throughout the session.
The Focal Persons of QEC from affiliated colleges participated enthusiastically and benefited from the hands-on training and interactive discussions. The session aimed to strengthen the capacity of affiliated colleges in maintaining academic standards and promoting a culture of research integrity.
At the conclusion of the training, participants appreciated the initiative taken by the Directorate of QEC and expressed their commitment to implementing the knowledge gained for enhancing quality assurance practices within their respective institutions.

World Environment Day Celebrated at the University of Chitral
The University of Chitral (UoCh), in collaboration with Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan, Chitral Region, and the Department of Botany, celebrated World Environment day.
The event was attended by faculty members, students, representatives of Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Chitral, Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The program commenced with a welcome address, followed by remarks from Mr. Wali Muhammad Khan, Regional Program Manager (RPM) of Focus Humanitarian Assistance Chitral, who highlighted the mission, vision, and objectives of Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan. He emphasized the organization's efforts in disaster risk reduction, environmental protection, and community resilience.
Speaking on the significance of World Environment Day, Ms. Meher Aftab Salma, Program Communication Specialist at Focus Pakistan, shed light on the global importance of environmental conservation and the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in addressing environmental challenges. She stressed the need for adopting sustainable practices to safeguard natural resources for future generations.
In his keynote address, Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah elaborated on the inseparable relationship between the environment and human life. He expressed concern over the rapid degradation of the environment and urged students and community members to actively participate in environmental protection initiatives. The Vice Chancellor particularly discouraged the use of plastic bottles and single-use plastics, encouraging students to adopt environmentally friendly alternatives.
He further highlighted the alarming depletion of water resources across the globe and underscored the importance of water conservation. Referring to global environmental concerns, he noted that nearly 15 billion trees are cut down every year, resulting in significant ecological imbalance and climate-related challenges.
The Vice Chancellor appreciated the efforts of Mr. Wali Muhammad Khan, RPM Focus Chitral, and Mr. Hafizullah, Head of the Department of Botany, for successfully organizing the event and raising awareness about environmental issues among students and the wider community.
During the event, Mr. Issa Khan from Focus Chitral delivered a detailed presentation on environmental protection, climate change adaptation, and practical measures that individuals and communities can adopt to reduce environmental degradation.Dr.Shah Fahad, Incharge ORIC stressed on the inclusion of environment related topics in the curriculum .
A major highlight of the program was a live demonstration conducted by the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) of Focus Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan. The team showcased emergency response techniques and explained their role in community preparedness and disaster management.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Mr. Wali Muhammad Khan and Ms. Meher Aftab Salma presented a commemorative shield to Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah in recognition of his leadership and support for environmental awareness initiatives.

Mr. Riaz Ahmad, Superintendent District Jail Chitral, met Prof. Dr. Hazir Ullah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Chitral, in his office. During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor emphasized that the University of Chitral would play an active role in the rehabilitation and reformation of prisoners, enabling them to become responsible and productive members of society.
Both sides also agreed to collaborate on organizing awareness sessions for students on drug prevention and responsible citizenship. In addition, they discussed the rehabilitation and counseling of su***de attempts survival and counseling sessions for affected individuals and families, as well as awareness programs highlighting the causes and consequences of su***de in Chitral.
