HEC Releases ORIC Evaluation Report 2024-25 📊

The Higher Education Commission, Pakistan (HEC) has released its Annual ORIC Self-Assessment Evaluation Report for FY 2024-25, assessing the research, innovation, and commercialization performance of 95 universities across Pakistan.

🏆 Only 7 universities achieved the prestigious “W” Category, the highest benchmark for research excellence and innovation management in Pakistan:

✅ National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST)
✅ Air University
✅ NED University of Engineering & Technology
✅ Sukkur Institute of Business Administration (IBA)
✅ The University of Lahore
✅ University of Agriculture Faisalabad
✅ Ziauddin University

📌 38 universities were placed in the “X” Category, while 43 universities were ranked in the “Y” Category.

⚠️ The report identified 7 universities as underperforming, including:

• Bacha Khan University Charsadda (BKUC)
• University of Swat
• Karakoram International University
• Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University
• Greenwich University
• Shah Abdul Latif University
• Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University

📈 Research Activity Continues to Grow

🔹 9,987 research proposals were submitted during FY 2024-25
🔹 Only 12.5% of proposals were approved due to limited funding opportunities
🔹 17 universities improved their rankings
🔹 4 universities experienced a decline in performance

📋 Key Concern Highlighted by HEC

According to the report, only 68.42% of universities currently have full-time ORIC heads, raising concerns about long-term research planning, innovation management, and commercialization strategies.

🏥 The report also recognized Khyber Medical University (KMU) for its outstanding performance, securing the top position in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and ranking second nationwide in the Medical & Health Sciences category.

📚 HEC stated that ORIC evaluations serve as an important benchmark for strengthening Pakistan’s research ecosystem, promoting innovation, enhancing industry-academia collaboration, and improving the overall quality of higher education.

Bacha Khan University Charsadda has announced that physical academic activities & classes will resume from Monday, 8th June 2026 ✅
