Advanced Qalqalah: How to Stop Correctly

Yesterday, we learned the 5 Qalqalah letters:

ق ط ب ج د

قُطْبُ جَدٍّ

Today, let’s look at what happens to Qalqalah when we stop (Waqf) on a word.

🔹 Qalqalah Kubra

When a Qalqalah letter comes at the end of a word and we stop on it, the letter becomes Sakin, and the Qalqalah is more noticeable.

✅ Examples:

الْفَلَقْ
خَلَقْ
وَتَبْ

When stopping, give the final Qalqalah letter a clear bounce, but do not add an extra vowel.

🔸 Important

Don’t pronounce:

❌ الْفَلَقَ
❌ الْفَلَقُ

Instead:

✅ الْفَلَقْ

The bounce should come from the Qalqalah itself, not from adding a vowel.

Stop on ق ط ب ج د → Clear Qalqalah

📖 Remember: Qalqalah is a bounce, not an added vowel.

Understanding the Quran

Reading the Quran is a blessing—but understanding its message helps us live by it.
“This is a blessed Book which We have revealed, so follow it and be mindful of Allah.”
(Surah Al-An'am 6:155)

The Quran was revealed as guidance for our lives. Children should gradually learn not only how to read it, but also what its verses teach about faith, worship, patience, honesty, family, and good character.

What is Qalqalah?

Qalqalah (القلقلة) means creating a slight echo or bouncing sound when certain letters are pronounced with Sukoon.
There are 5 Qalqalah letters:

ق ط ب ج د
Easy way to remember them:

قُطْبُ جَدٍّ

When one of these five letters has Sukoon, the sound should have a slight bounce.
Examples:

يَجْعَلْ
أَطْعَمَهُمْ
يَدْخُلُونَ

🔹 Qalqalah Sughra

When the Qalqalah letter has a temporary/light Sukoon within the word, the bounce is relatively light.

🔹 Qalqalah Kubra
When you stop (Waqf) on a word and the final letter is one of the Qalqalah letters, the bounce becomes stronger.

Sukoon inside → Sughra
Stopping on Qalqalah letter → Kubra
