Nikah in the Light of the Qur'an

Nikah (marriage) is a sacred covenant in Islam, established by Allah to bring love, mercy, and tranquility between a husband and wife. The Qur'an says:

«"And among His signs is that He created for you mates from among yourselves so that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy." (Qur'an 30:21)»

Marriage is not only a social contract but also an act of worship that helps believers protect their faith, maintain chastity, and build strong families. The Qur'an encourages marriage for those who are able and emphasizes kindness, justice, and mutual respect between spouses.

A successful marriage is built on faith, patience, honesty, forgiveness, and compassion. When husband and wife fulfill each other's rights and seek Allah's pleasure, their home becomes a place of peace and blessings.

"Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and offspring comfort to our eyes and make us leaders for the righteous." (Qur'an 25:74)

Lowering the Gaze: Protecting the Heart

In Islam, lowering the gaze is a sign of faith, modesty, and self-control. Looking at others with lust is considered a form of the "zina of the eyes." The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "The eyes commit zina, and their zina is looking." (Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

A single glance may seem small, but repeated sinful looks can weaken the heart, increase temptation, and distance a person from Allah. Islam teaches believers to guard their eyes because pure eyes help create a pure heart.

Lowering the gaze is not just about avoiding sin—it is about respecting others, protecting one's character, and seeking the pleasure of Allah. Every time a believer turns away from a forbidden glance, it is an act of worship that brings reward and strengthens faith.

Zina in the Light of the Quran

The Quran clearly forbids zina (unlawful sexual relations) and describes it as a grave sin. Allah says:

«"Do not even go near zina. Indeed, it is an immorality and an evil way."
(Surah Al-Isra 17:32)»

This command teaches believers not only to avoid zina itself, but also everything that can lead to it, such as immodesty, temptation, and inappropriate relationships.

The Quran encourages believers to protect their modesty, lower their gaze, and maintain purity. It also emphasizes repentance, reminding us that Allah is Most Merciful and accepts the sincere repentance of those who turn back to Him.

May Allah protect us all and guide us to live according to His commandments. Ameen.
