Congratulations to Dr. Rabia Sadiq – Our Proud Alumna!
The Department of Political Science, School of State Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of our distinguished alumna, Dr. Rabia Sadiq, who successfully defended her PhD in Political Science at Georgia State University, USA, on 14 August 2026.
Dr. Rabia’s academic journey is a true reflection of passion, perseverance, and the courage to pursue one’s aspirations. Beginning her academic career with a BBA from The Islamia University of Bahawalpur and an MBA from GCU Lahore, she made a transformative decision to follow her passion for politics and governance by enrolling in the MA Political Science program (Session 2019–21) at IUB.
This bold academic transition became a milestone that opened new horizons. After completing her MA, she earned the prestigious HEC US–Pakistan Knowledge Corridor Scholarship to pursue her PhD in Political Science at Georgia State University, USA, where she specialized in Comparative Politics, focusing on the institutionalization of political parties in Pakistan.
Throughout her academic journey, Dr. Rabia has demonstrated excellence in research and teaching. She has contributed through her teaching roles at:
* The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (1 year)
* NCBA&E (3 years)
* Georgia State University, USA, as a Graduate Student Instructor (3 years)
Her successful PhD defense, research publications, and international academic experience represent a remarkable achievement and a source of pride for the Department and the entire IUB community.

Panel Discussion on “Marka-e-Haq and National Unity” Held at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur
Bahawalpur, 10 August 2026: As part of the Independence Day Celebrations, the Department of Political Science, Usman Buzdar School of State Sciences, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, organized a panel discussion titled “Marka-e-Haq and National Unity” under the auspices of the District Administration Bahawalpur and in collaboration with The Islamia University of Bahawalpur. The event was held at the VC Secretariat, Abbasia Campus, IUB Bahawalpur.
The distinguished panel comprised Prof. Dr. Muqarrab Akbar, Chairman, Department of Political Science, Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan; Dr. Ghulam Mustafa, Chairman, Department of International Relations, Government College University Faisalabad; and Dr. Syed Adnan Athar Bukhari, Assistant Professor, Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.
The session commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, who highlighted the significance of academic discourse on national issues and the role of universities in promoting informed citizenship, national consciousness, and social cohesion. The program was moderated by Dr. Shakil Kathia, Chairman, Department of Political Science, who facilitated an engaging exchange of views among the panelists.
The panelists discussed the significance of national unity, strategic vision, collective responsibility, and Pakistan’s evolving regional security environment. They also deliberated on the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement and its implications for Pakistan and the wider region, particularly with reference to emerging security challenges, regional cooperation, collective defence, and prospects for regional stability.
The program was attended by faculty members and students of the Department of Political Science as well as faculty and students from other departments of the University. Their participation contributed to an interactive academic environment and provided students with an opportunity to engage with experts on contemporary national and regional issues.
The event concluded with remarks by Dr. Sarfraz Batool, Director, Usman Buzdar School of State Sciences, who appreciated the scholarly contributions of the panelists and emphasized the importance of sustained academic dialogue on issues of national and regional significance.
The event reflected the collaborative efforts of the District Government Bahawalpur, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, university administration, faculty, and students in commemorating the Independence Celebrations through meaningful academic engagement and promoting greater awareness of national unity and contemporary strategic challenges.
