Department of Political Science to Hold Peace Workshop on International Day of Peace🕊️

The Political Science Students’ Club, Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, will organize a 30-minute peace workshop for university students on 21 September 2026 at 12:45 PM.

Held under the theme “Unity in Diversity: Cultivating a Campus Culture of Peace,” the workshop will promote respect, harmony and mutual understanding across the campus community.

𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬🎓

The Political Science Student Club successfully organized the first session of its “Expert Panel Series” on 18th September 2026 at the Seminar Room, Department of Political Science. The session was held on the theme “New Provinces, Devolution or Stronger Local Government? Rethinking Pakistan’s Federal Structure.”

The initiative represents a student-led academic platform designed to encourage students to engage with contemporary political and constitutional issues as panel experts, discussants, and moderators. In today's session, Sajjad Ahmad, Nosher Bugti, and M. Aliyaan Naseer participated as student panelists, while Wajiha Khalid served as the moderator. The discussion provided students with an opportunity to present their perspectives, critically engage with different viewpoints, and develop their academic communication, analytical, and moderation skills.

The session was attended by students and faculty members of the Department of Political Science, as well as participants from other departments of the University. The discussion remained engaging and intellectually stimulating, with active participation from the audience and meaningful exchange of ideas on federalism, provincial restructuring, devolution, local governance, and Pakistan’s federal structure.

The Expert Panel Series has been conceived as a fortnightly academic initiative of the Department of Political Science, in which students will take the lead as panelists and moderators. The series will be conducted under the academic supervision of two faculty members, providing students with a structured platform to explore important national and international political issues through informed discussion and academic dialogue.

The successful inaugural session marks the beginning of a promising student-led academic initiative aimed at fostering critical thinking, confidence, leadership, and a culture of constructive debate among students.

The Department of Political Science, Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) is pleased to announce a Student Expert Panel Discussion Series featuring an engaging discussion on:

We are pleased to highlight the successful completion of the Alkhidmat Summer Internship Program by our student, Karim Bakhsh.

The Closing Ceremony of the Alkhidmat Summer Internship Program was successfully organised by Alkhidmat Foundation Multan at the Islamic Centre, Multan. The event was led by President Alkhidmat Foundation Multan, Syed Abdul Qadir, and Chairman Alkhidmat Foundation Multan, Sohaib Ammar Siddiqui, along with the dedicated Women Wing team.

The ceremony celebrated the interns’ valuable contributions, learning, teamwork, and commitment throughout their internship journey. Certificates were presented to the interns in recognition of their participation and dedicated efforts.

The Department of Political Science proudly appreciates Karim Bakhsh for successfully completing this internship and gaining valuable practical exposure beyond the classroom. 𝐒𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐲 2026

The SDGs Collaboration Center, in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, successfully organised a seminar to commemorate "International Day of Democracy 2026" on 15 September 2026.

The seminar was arranged under the theme " 𝙒𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙀𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙘𝙚 𝘾𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙨, 𝘿𝙚𝙢𝙤𝙘𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙮 𝘿𝙚𝙡𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨".It aimed to promote awareness of democratic values and highlight the importance of inclusive participation, representative institutions, political accountability, and meaningful public engagement in strengthening democratic societies.

Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences , chaired the session. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of academic dialogue in promoting democratic awareness and encouraging responsible citizenship. She emphasised that universities play an important role in developing informed, tolerant, and socially responsible citizens.

The distinguished speakers at the seminar included:

Particular emphasis was placed on the principle that democracy becomes effective when citizens are provided with equal opportunities to participate and when institutions remain responsive, transparent, and accountable.

The seminar also highlighted the relationship between democracy and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions. The discussion underlined that inclusive decision-making, respect for diverse opinions, the rule of law, and strong public institutions are essential for sustainable peace and development.

The event provided a valuable academic platform for reflecting on the meaning and significance of democracy in the contemporary world. It reinforced the need to promote a democratic culture based on dialogue, tolerance, participation, constitutionalism, and respect for every citizen’s voice.

The seminar concluded successfully with appreciation for the session chair, distinguished speakers, organisers, and participants. The event reflected the continued commitment of the SDGs Collaboration Center and the Department of Political Science to advancing academic discourse, civic awareness, and democratic values at The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.

Under the ongoing CSS/PMS Foundation Programme, jointly organised by the Commissioner’s Office Bahawalpur and the Horticulture Agency Bahawalpur, a special academic session was held today at the Central Library Bahawalpur.

Dr. Shakil Akhtar, Chairman, Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, delivered a comprehensive two-hour lecture on Political Science and International Relations (IR) for CSS aspirants.

During the session, Dr. Shakil Akhtar provided valuable guidance on the scope, key concepts, preparation strategies, and examination requirements of Political Science and International Relations as CSS subjects. He also explained how candidates can develop conceptual clarity, analytical thinking, effective answer-writing skills, and a better understanding of national and international political developments.

Emphasising the interdisciplinary nature of both subjects, he encouraged the aspirants to connect political theories with contemporary national and global issues. The lecture concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, during which participants discussed subject selection, recommended readings, preparation challenges, and examination techniques.

Dr. Shakil Akhtar’s participation reflects the commitment of the Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur, to promoting academic outreach and supporting aspiring civil servants in their preparation for competitive examinations.

The CSS/PMS Foundation Programme continues every Monday to Wednesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Central Library Bahawalpur.

The Department of Political Science successfully conducted a Supervisory Meeting of active PhD scholars today, Monday, 14 September 2026.

During the meeting, scholars presented their current research status and academic progress. They were provided with necessary guidance regarding the timely completion and submission of their PhD progress reports.

The scholars were also informed that 17 September 2026 is the final date for submitting progress reports. The importance of regular attendance, satisfactory research progress, and compliance with departmental requirements was emphasized.
