The Department of Political Science organized a Model Council of Common Interests (CCI) Meeting as part of its series of departmental students’ activities for Fall 2025. The activity was designed to provide students with a practical understanding of Pakistan’s constitutional mechanism of federalism and inter-provincial coordination through experiential learning.
The main objectives of the Model CCI Meeting were to enhance students’ conceptual understanding of the Council of Common Interests under the Constitution of Pakistan, to develop analytical, debating, and decision-making skills among students and to encourage active participation and collaborative learning in a simulated policy-making environment.
Students of BS Political Science (2nd Semester) actively participated in the Model CCI Meeting by assuming the roles of federal and provincial representatives. The session simulated real CCI proceedings, where participants discussed key inter-governmental issues, presented arguments, and proposed solutions in a formal and disciplined manner.
The event was graced by the presence of the Chairman, Department of Political Science, Dr. Shakil Akhtar, along with respected faculty members of the department. Dr. Shakil Akhtar appreciated the initiative and the efforts of the students. He also initiated an interactive discussion with the participants, highlighting the importance of constitutional institutions like the CCI in strengthening federal harmony and democratic governance in Pakistan.
Mr. Shah Nawaz served as the judge of the activity and evaluated the participants on the basis of content, role clarity, confidence, coordination, and overall performance. Ms. Hira Riaz acted as the mentor of the activity and guided the students throughout the preparation and ex*****on of the Model CCI Meeting.
Based on the performance and evaluation criteria, the following positions were awarded:
First Position: Ahmad and Javed, representing the Province of Punjab as Chief Minister and Provincial Minister, respectively.
Second Position: Shamraiz and Rida, representing the Prime Minister of Pakistan and Federal Minister, respectively.
Third Position: Sibghatullah, representing the Province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK).
The winners were awarded shields and certificates in recognition of their outstanding performance.

𝗦𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮 2026🏏🏸🥅⚽🏆🎖️
The Department of Political Science organized a Sports Gala on 3rd January, 2026 with the objective of promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, and team spirit among students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation and created a vibrant and energetic environment.
A large number of students took part in various sports activities. For the purpose of competition, participants were divided into four teams: Markhors, Zalmi, Titans, and Warriors. All teams displayed dedication, discipline, and a strong sense of fair play throughout the event. Team Markhors emerged as the overall champions by winning most of the major games, while the remaining teams also performed commendably, making the competition lively and engaging.
The Sports Gala was attended by the Chairman, Department of Political Science, Dr. Shakil Akhtar, along with a significant number of students, which added to the success of the event. The presence of faculty and students reflected strong departmental support for extracurricular activities.
The event was arranged under the platform of the Political Science Student Club with coordination from its mentors Mr. Rao Waleed Farooq and Ms. Hira Riaz. Ms. Shehr Bano (ISA – Female), and Mr. Shah Nawaz ( Lecturer ) remained actively involved in supervising the gala, ensuring smooth conduct of activities.
The Sports Gala 2026 proved to be a successful initiative that strengthened unity, teamwork, and healthy competition among students. The department aims to continue organizing such events to support students’ holistic development alongside academic excellence.

Activity — Symposium: Local Self-Government Systems
BS Political Science 3rd Semester students conducted a symposium under the supervision of Mr. Khizer Hayat, Lecturer Political Science Department.
The following groups participated and presented.
Group 1 (Head): Shehryar, Najeeb, Gull Naveed and Anas — Local government systems of the United Kingdom and United States of America
Group 2 (Co-Heads): Pakiza & Muhammad Ali — Local government system of Pakistan
Group 3 (Head): Amaan Haseeb — (topic presented by team)
Group 4 (Head): Aliyan Haseeb — Local government systems of Switzerland and Germany (presented by Aliyan Naseer)
Group 5 (Head): Karim Bukhsh — Strengthening local government in Pakistan
The objective of this activity was to develop in students comparative understanding of local government systems, their historical roots, structure, tiers, functions, and practical measures for strengthening local governance through a structured symposium and peer evaluation.
Five student teams presented structured, evidence-based presentations on assigned country or policy topics. Each presentation addressed: history, institutional structure, tiers, core functions, and mechanisms to strengthen local government.
Presentations were followed by a question-and-answer session and evaluation by the appointed judge Ms. Hira Riaz.
Teams delivered concise comparative analyses of local governance models. Presentations highlighted both institutional arrangements (tiers and functions) and operational challenges. The judge provided academic feedback focusing on analytical depth, use of sources, clarity, and policy relevance.
Observers from department leadership reviewed and commended the academic quality and student engagement.

The Chairperson, Dr. Shakil Akhtar, commended the class for high-quality presentations and encouraged continued participation in simulation-based learning.

The Department of Political Science organized a semester Activity for the 4th Semester "Mini lecture Series" on the topic of " Political Systems and Forms of Government in India, China, and Turkey."
The activity was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Shah Nawaz Lecturer Department of Political Science while the role of Judge was performed by Ms. Hira Riaz ; Lecturer Department of Political Science

All participants showed excellent preparation, confidence, and respectful debating manners. Their presentations reflected strong knowledge and sharp critical thinking.

🎉 Proud Moment for Department of Political Science: Our Alumni Shahid Hussain Appointed at the Election Commission of Pakistan 🎉
We are delighted to share the exciting news that our distinguished alumnus Shahid Hussain (Session 2020-2024) has been selected and appointed as Fact Check Officer (BS-16) at the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) — a prestigious and highly relevant position that reflects the academic strength of the Department of Political Science, The Islamia University of Bahawalpur.
Shahid Hussain’s academic journey is marked by excellence and dedication. He secured second position in FA from BISE D.I. Khan and received the Stori Da Pakhtunkhwa Award from the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He later joined the BS Political Science program at IUB, where he was awarded a USAID scholarship and proudly graduated as the batch topper.
Alongside academics, Shahid actively contributed to university life as Joint Editor of the IUB Publication Society and was selected for the CEJ-IBA Karachi Fact-Checking Internship, funded by UNDP Pakistan, gaining valuable professional experience.
After successfully clearing all three phases of examinations and the final interview, Shahid has now joined the Election Commission of Pakistan, making his alma mater immensely proud.
